I have a number of friends where physical contact is just affection and caring, and NOT a sexual thing. A few are amazing huggers because they don't hold back, and we both know that's what it is and not the other stuff.

I think the real issue is they're self-limiting and compelled to put every situation into a particular 'box' or 'category.' And all too often, it's a presumption of "Is this a romantic relationship or not? No touching beyond a brief hug or handshake if it's the latter."
