Kemi Badenoch's spokesman denies she is ashamed of British animals, after the Conservative party call the Bank of England's decision to put British wildlife on our banknotes "deeply depressing"
Can’t quite believe that journalists are having to report this latest visceral spasm of rightwing idiocy. How feeble-minded our politics have become for the leader of the opposition - and Farage of course - to feel they have to turn this utter non-event into a culture war moment. Dear god.
Trump is working hard today in the middle of his war campaigning in Kentucky against fellow Republican Thomas Massie, because he co-sponsored the bill to release the Epstein files. Nothing to improve the lives of Americans as he continues his Revenge & Retribution Tour.
oh ffs! The Tories are so pathetic. I think it's really nice to see wildlife. Obviously Tories would rather hunt it and kill rather than honour it.
Culture war latest: the Bank of England has announced that after a public consultation, to which it received 44,000 responses, the next new banknotes will feature native wildlife.
Tories: "It is deeply depressing that under Lab our national heroes are considered too 'divisive' to be on bank notes."
When I said 'Kemi Badenoch is so partisan, under her the Tories would oppose puppies and kittens if Labour said something nice about them', I didn't mean it literally.
Once again I remain baffled as to how the "Kemi is brilliant at PMQs now" crowd have memed themselves into that position. This week she set herself up for a fairly easy thumping from Starmer on several questions – and then tied herself in knots trying to think on her feet.
I reckon she's just one interview away from going full on Trump style: "If *I'd* been Prime Minister, there never would have been a war!"
DON’T MENTION THE WAR!

Trump: "The people are demanding it. Every time I go out -- 'Save America, sir! Save America Act! We want the Save America Act, sir!' -- that's all they talk about. They don't talk about housing. They don't talk about anything. That's what they talk about."
tomorrow Leavitt will be asked about this and sneeringly reply “he was very clear, only woke commies like you wouldn’t understand”
"He lies and then he lies again!"
Donald Trump has denied responsibility for the destruction of a primary school in Iran.
But @mrjamesob.bsky.social thinks he's spotted a contradiction in the President's latest statements...
It worked with Brexit, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, austerity & most of Donald Trump but the right’s attempts to hoodwink the public into wanting war with Iran are failing miserably… open.spotify.com/episode/3XdO...
Because of course he did…
I explained a while ago that it would be impossible to say anything about Trump’s Iranian ‘adventure’ with absolute certainty. I’m sorry, I was wrong. He will *never* do anything that genuinely upsets or angers Vladimir Putin. Whether in Iran, in Ukraine or even in the USA. It is his only constant.
Whoa. This is big. "The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now." www.reuters.com/world/middle...

Apparently, even if you have no idea what you intended to do nor any clue what "consequences" are.
The law of unintended consequences rules.
Yesterday on BBC Newsnight, we discussed the ongoing war in Iran and when Trump might decide to end it. We also spoke about the UK's involvement and recent criticisms of Starmer.
Yesterday Senator Chris Murphy attended a briefing on the war in Iran. Afterwards he said:
We are not going to be able to achieve any of our objectives. This is a disaster of epic proportions.

How do you end a war, when you don't know why you started it in the first place?

❌ Leaving the EU has proved incredibly damaging for our NHS.
The University of Surrey has found that Brexit has caused 1,485 additional deaths per year due to EU nurses leaving the UK.
Trump is keen that troops AND civilians risk their lives to make life easier for him whilst he wages war and plays golf.
Fascinating thread from a US senator.
Interesting that as he cannot say anything which was briefed and classified, he lists what was not briefed.
Clever.
