Firemen watching flames down an alley way.

An early morning walk with the dog led me past the fire in Exeter city centre. Thankfully it was under control pretty quickly, no one was hurt and it didn't make it to St Nicholas Priory

Terry Makewell on LinkedIn: #hearingloss #menieres #inclusion #tinnitus #balancedisorders… Not all disabilities are visible. I know this from lived experience. 🧏‍♂️ I've had Ménière’s disease for nearly 20 years now. It’s a rare a rare inner ear…

I've been missing for a while. I had an operation that purposely destroyed my balance function and made me lose even more hearing. I had to learn to balance and walk straight again.

I thought I'd share some of my menieres and deafness journey to help others

The wettest sloppiest sloshy slappin footsteps you've ever freakin heard 👾

4/5 viewers aged 18-25 yrs use subtitles/closed captions. It helps when distractions & devices compete for attention 📱💻

Stranger Things did this well, understanding audience & context. The Media Act 2024 will give us more

Well the 4th verse of 'We three Kings of Orient are' takes a dark turn.

Sighing, bleeding, dying, sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

Great Nativity at Exeter Cathedral though 🌟🦙

It's that time of year when RNID people from across the country travel to meet up for our charity summit. Even as a fully remote org we value meeting up 3 times a year.

We're going to share, learn and celebrate....and wear our Christmas jumpers! 🎅🎄

To help people understand design I talk about I was doing woodwork at A-level. When making a table I designed it for how it looked, but also for how people were going to use it. Was the wood strong enough for people to sit on it? Was there enough space for everyone?

If you don’t trust a machine to write a book or a song, it’s not trustworthy for alt text.

Automated tools can help ensure there’s alt text (which is preferable to no alt text) but it’s not always accurate or actually helpful.

Put the same level of care from your posts into your alt text

a man wearing glasses is giving the middle finger in front of a wall that says priest Alt: A man in a black T-shirt is signing 'sad' by pulling his forefinger down across his cheek from his right eye. His face looks sad. The background is a collection of squares and the word 'TRIEST' is written very small in the top left of the image.

This is so true. The automatically generated alt text on this sign language gif of someone signing 'sad' is:

'a man wearing glasses is giving the middle finger in front of a wall that says priest'

He really isn't.

Absolutely gutted not to be able to make it to @ukcharitycamp.bsky.social tomorrow....because of stuff. I've only been waiting 11 months! 🤷 There will still be someone from RNID there though.

Hoping to be able to follow it on @bsky.app #UKCharityCamp

Image descriptions: Two colour photographs, the first of which shows the artist Johnny Warrender as he paints. We can see him stood looking towards his easel, whilst behind him are windows overlooking a car-park, with bright blue sky showing a very sunny but cold day. Surrounding him are (in the background) awards and instruments which form part of The Evelyn Glennie Collection. To his left, in the foreground of the photo, we can see some watercolour pans in his palette tin, a mixing palette tray, and an array of watercolour brushes. In the second photo, we can see the subject of Johnny's work - the Ugandan drum which created the sound of the Morse Code on BBC Radio during World War 2.

The Foundation has been delighted to open its doors to the eminent artist, Johnny Warrender, who is focusing on capturing images related to war and conflict. This Ugandan drum created the sound of the Morse Code on BBC Radio during WW2, played by the late James Blades.

DMA letter to Secretary of State Peter Kyle on behalf of the charity sector Major charities have lined up behind the DMA's call for the government to extend the soft opt-in to the charity sector.

The charity sector plays a critical role in delivering vital services.

A small change (soft opt-in for email marketing) to the Data Bill could increase annual charity donations in the UK by £290 million! That's why I'm a co-signer on a letter to the Secretary of State.

JustGiving is now accepting cryptocurrency donations. 😕 Maybe not so strange with ~580 million crypto users worldwide & an estimated £1.5bn in cryptocurrency having been donated to charities [from Giving Block’s 2024 report] 💰

Maybe something to do with not being subject to capital gains tax?
