i don't fault anyone for being on corpo platforms but i want you to know... there is genuinely such a better way to be experiencing social media. and that way is #mastodon and the #fediverse

that's the most important part of the #fediverse to me, that moderation is actually done on a manageable human scale rather than algorithmically or globally across the entire platform by a small skeleton crew of underpaid and miserable employees

the book was Move Slowly and Build Bridges: Mastodon, the Fediverse, and the Struggle for Democratic Social Media by Robert W. Gehl btw

in a book about the history of the #fediverse that i got interviewed for this is termed the "covenantal fediverse" due to said instances broadly following the mastodon server covenant, the most important point of which is "active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia"

corpo social media like #bluesky and something like the #fediverse are fundamentally different beasts. at its core, the fediverse is a rejection of corporate bullshit. there's no ads, timelines are chronological, everything is free and open source. there are solid codes of conduct. people are nicer
