Starfleet attempts to discreetly mobilise in fear that with GALAXY beyond the subspace network it may not receive withdraw orders in time to avoid 'poking the hive'.

ODY is weeks away from GAL but sets an intercept course for the 2nd time in just over month.

A meeting takes place between Starfleet Admiralty and President of the UFP. The meeting lasts 7 minutes and 1 second.

A priority one subspace signal is sent to GALAXY:

‘Cease Mission immediately. Return to Federation Space’

The Borg mission is over.

GCP sign off this week, moving systems in design from 2365 to reality:

Captain Picard onboard ENTD awakens from a nightmare about his abduction by the Borg. He sends a secure subspace Captain to Captain message to CO GALAXY telling him to consider questioning his orders to investigate the origins of the Borg attack on Earth .

The irony that a GC warp core couldn't even fit inside the hull of a Connie!

As GALAXY ploughs further into unknown space, a battle between strategists, intellectuals, curiosity, politics & fear play out. Questions remain. Where do the Borg come from? How many of them are there? Are more on the way? Has Starfleet met them before? Etc

A subdue feeling amongst the crew of GALAXY as the ship ploughs into unknown space. Interesting sensor data about Borg activity is being gathered. GALAXY’s power plants easily handle a standing yellow alert. Battle drills see full Red Alert at under 45 seconds.

Captain Jean Luc Picard formally protests to Starfleet Board of Admiralty about the mission of GALAXY to investigate the origin of the Borg cube that attacked Earth. Starfleet dismisses his concerns, for ‘undefined’ reasons. Picard suspects he is the issue.

UFP President and FED Council received a classified brief in closed session about GALAXY's mission to trace the origin of the Borg Cube that attacked Earth. Council members apply pressure to the President and Starfleet to withdraw GALAXY out of fear of 'poking the hive'.

Note: this is why ENTD refit and repairs post Best of Both Worlds, must have consumed a lot of resources because the ship was back in service a mere month after the Borg attack. Ship more damaged than seen on screen.

A growing fear for Starfleet is if they should ‘provoke the Borg’ as GALAXY travels further into unknown space to trace the path of the Borg Cube that attacked Earth. With most the fleet returned to the interior of FED space, ODY is needed for Alpha Quad tasks.

NX Galaxy executes tactical drills & weapon tests against a series of retired former Ship hulls, used as drones. For example: They make light work of hulls of Constitution & Ambassador class.

A step change in Starfleet weapon tech arriving with the GC family.

Special note: CHALLENGER holds parts from
the Earth Space Shuttle CHALLENGER lost in 1986, as a memorial. The first CO of CHALL will be the descent of one of the astronauts lost on that day. The classroom onboard is named after the civilian teacher lost with STS-51-L.

While a review of the Batch II GC takes place, pausing build and fitting out, the entire construction efforts of the GC are directed to finishing CHALLENGER and MAGELLAN. They are expected to join the fleet ahead of schedule, helping address fleet shortages.

GCP Lead architect is ambushed by journalists asking: "With Magellan & Challenger joining the fleet soon, will they perform against the Borg?"

Annoyed, GCP responded: "They will perform just as well as Galaxy & Enterprise and that is good enough for you."

Starship ENTERPRISE recertification trials are mostly complete but fleet shortages mean that NCC-1701-D must return to flagship duties & engage in her first mission assignment, finishing some trials on route.

Starfleet confirms that construction number 12 [Hull 13, but naval tradition makes it hull 14] has already had its name chosen. A crafty move by GCP to ensure Batch III GC are built. However, small print confirms, this will be the last batch of GC built.

“Reminded of resistance on Earth when sail ships were replaced with mechanisation. Starfleet held us back by not scrapping ancient ships, ones at Wolf 359. We had new ships & weapons, including Galaxy, that should have been well into service.”

As Starship ENTERPRISE returns to service. Starship GALAXY arrives in the vicinity beyond Jouret IV. Her classified mission to assess the Borg threat and enable early warning systems is being watched across Starfleet.

Starship NCC-1701-D engages in trials lasting a week before returning to active duty.

Redirecting entire GCP team and work reduced repair time from 6 weeks to 3.

The name for hull 9 of the Galaxy Class is leaked in ‘The Times’ of London newspaper. Internal rough mockups from GCP testing names for submission gets into the public domain.

GALAXY accelerates slowly up to Warp 9 as she tests her replacement warp coils that were damaged during her chase of ENTD/Borg.

She is to investigate beyond Jouret IV for the Borg’s origin. Under orders to NOT engage the Borg. Early warn UFP if necessary.
