Findings: Diacerein did not significantly improve knee pain vs placebo. Settings: 4 hospitals in Australia.

In knee osteoarthritis with effusion-synovitis, diacerein did not result in greater pain improvement vs placebo over 24 weeks, with more frequent gastrointestinal adverse events reported.
