No joke, the third paragraph of this @nytimes.com article should be: "The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by a private foundation headquartered in Sweden."
On top of everything else about him, Trump is also dumb. A newspaper of record shouldn't let him get away with it.

Massachusetts is one of the minority of states that pays more into the federal government than we get back. At what point do we shift away from begging the feds for money, and towards fighting to keep more of it in the first place?

The publication that claims that democracy dies in darkness has willingly darkened its own pages. What are we to conclude except that the Washington Post stands in open opposition to democracy?

Just unsubscribed from the @washingtonpost.com. I support independent journalism, but it's clear that the WaPo isn't in that category anymore. The opinion section is openly Bezos' mouthpiece now, and I can't trust that the news room will be protected anymore, either.

Dems' inability to get anything really done, especially for people who need it most, cost them trust. Frankly, I sympathize with the argument of "you haven't done shit for me, so I'll try the other guy." So... let's do something for 'em and win them back.

imo, if there's one lesson for Dems to take from 2016 and 2024, it's not to be afraid to declare *and enact* their policies. "But Republicans are stonewalling" — then figure it out at the state level. Make your case for why it's good policy and then make progress *somewhere*. People will notice.

Democrats must choose: The elites or the working class - The Boston Globe
In my view, the Democrats lost this election because they ignored the justified anger of working class America and became the defenders of a rigged economic and political system.
Sanders hits on something here that he then forgets in his summary bullet points: Democrats need to remember that politics is at least as much about emotion as policy. Dems can't win with technocrats and boringly stable hands at the tops of tickets! Get some fire! www.bostonglobe.com/2024/11/10/o...

Democrats Draw Up an Entirely New Anti-Trump Battle Plan
The party’s early preparations to oppose the next Trump administration are heavily focused on legal fights and consolidating state power, rather than marching in the streets.

MA will not lead on this until its legislature learns how to actually make decisions. Some transparency would be great, too; naturally, the only thing they can agree to quickly is to reduce that.

I had a similar journey a few years back. I wanted to be nicer, but considered snark part of my self-image. I found that when I toned it down and was more openly genuine, it was extremely freeing! I'm still snarky at times, but now it's just one tool in the toolbox, and I like myself better for it.

I think 99 is the highest. Their own picks only get 99, for example.
I'd have thought NaN, because they usually don't factor the first guess into the final skill score. I guess they do if it happens to be right!

I just had a really interesting thought for generative AI. I was talking about Jane Austen with a friend, about how the story and characters are great but I don't like the circuitous style. I do like Shirley Jackson's style, though. Gen AI could totally rewrite Emma in the style of Jackson!
