Despite using our community as a backdrop for all those press conferences on the campaign, there was no mention of Helene recovery during the State of the Union.
Chuck Edwards doesn't even have the clout within his own party for our recovery to be mentioned once during a two hour speech.

There's a lot dividing us from one another right now, but we have more in common than could ever be different, and Dr. King's life shows us that it's never a bad time to work together for a better world. I hope that's a set of values we'll take with us as we remember him today.
He believed in the American dream that everyone, no matter their creed, color, or ZIP code, should be able to make a good wage for full time work and afford to raise a family, and he spent his life uplifting the poor and other struggling Americans.

Instead, he voted to raise the cost of health insurance at a time where we can't afford any more price hikes. Western North Carolina deserves better, and I'll work with anyone in Congress to lower health care costs.

Earlier today, Chuck Edwards had another opportunity to join a bipartisan group to extend health care subsidies to tens of thousands of people in his district. He chose not to.
I'll work to ban stock trading for members of Congress, reform campaign finance and end Citizens United, and reduce the influence of corporate lobbying and special interest groups.
For our democracy to uphold its ideals, our government must behave in a trustworthy way.
