A misty and damp view in watercolour of the Thames done on the spot in 1993.
A London plein air watercolour drawing of the Thames on a drizzly day (I was underneath a structure of some kind). St Paul's on the left and I think it's Blackfriars Bridge on the right. I expect that skyline has changed since 1993. It was cold.

My watercolour and gouache on-the-spot painting of Christ's Pieces in Cambridge, a popular well-kept park with colourful flower beds. The sun is throwing the shadows of the trees across the grass. The central buildings have since been demolished and replaced. The spire is the redundant Victorian church All Saints' which is regularly opened for exhibitions and for people to see the beautiful Arts and Crafts wall decorations. This painting among others was bought by Rose-Marie, a lovely lady I got to know via my paintings and who sat for several portraits. which I still have. I think this was one of the ones she gave to her daughter and son-in-law who live in the US.
The 1980s saw me regularly cyclilng round Cambridge looking for views to paint, usually putting my bike on its stand and balancing my drawing board on the handlebars. This is a watercolour and gouache sketch of Christ's Pieces, a central park (see alt text).

Scarborough Bay. We visited St Mary's church on that hill shown in the drawing and saw Anne Brontë's grave there.
Had a holiday in #Scarborough, Yorkshire, a decade ago and managed to do some on the spot watercolours and drawings there and in nearby Whitby. Such an inspiring place! I've been recently making winter use of the 100s of photos I took by drawing from them. Here's one in sepia ink of Scarborough Bay.
A Cambridge watercolour with touches of bodycolour. That might be my bike on the left
Another vertical format small watercolour. This one shows All Saints' Passage in Cambridge (1999). On the right you can see the sign for Ray's Barber Shop. Cambridge has always had wonky old lamps (some of them used then to still be gas lit)

The hat stall on Cambridge market from 26 years ago, watercolour and indian ink. Tea and coffee on hand from an adjacent tea stall.
This watercolour drawing of the Cambridge market hat stall from 1/4 century ago is on the wall of a friend and I had completely forgotten it so I took a quick snap when visiting to feed her cat. In these dull times the hats are less decorative than then.

Watercolour drawing of The Square, Winchester
Another of my watercolour drawings of Winchester from 1997 (still in my possession). I sat by some railings with my back to the cathedral and completed this on the spot even though light rain came on (I had an umbrella).

How climate breakdown is putting the world’s food in peril - in maps and charts
A small sketchbook watercolour drawing of Southampton docks with cranes reaching up into the sky and a few gulls having a break from stealing bags of chips from people.
Just a little sketch from a visit to Southampton in 1998. I wandered around looking for something to draw and settled for a quick seascape of the docks with gulls. A cold wind coming off the water.

If you're into the 1920s/30s and art depicting common people's lives and night scenes of New York, you'll love the art Martin Lewis (1881 – 1962) made.
