Current Research at the Center: - Psilocybin for palliative care in cancer - Psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression - Psilocin-related compound (RE104) for postpartum depression - Patterns of psychedelic use and intersection with legislative changes using SAMHSA/NSDUH data

Objectives of the Center 1. Clinical trials of psychedelic substances for emotional-behavioral conditions, as well as neurologic, functional neurologic, and inflammatory/autoimmune disorders. This includes palliative care for individuals with cancer and progressive neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, movement disorders, and early dementia. 2. Basis science of psychedelics, including therapeutic mechanisms and physiologic outcomes. 3. Public health and social science research, particularly in association with Colorado's decriminalization of natural medicines under Proposition 122 4. Economic and health policy research, especially regarding coverage and payment policies for the therapeutic use of psychedelics 5. Provision of education/training in the clinical use of psychedelics both within the CU system, and for facilitators seeking certification under Colorado's Natural Medicine program.

Potential in the Not-too-Distant Future - Psilocybin for mild traumatic brain injury - Depression, anxiety, and existential distress in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - Depression and anxiety in Parkinson Disease and related disorders (FXTAS, MSA, PSP) - Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) - Outcomes of psychedelic use under Prop 122 - MDMA for abused and neglected dogs

Why use psychedelics for treatment of neurological disorders? * Anti-inflammatory properties * Neurogenesis-hippocampus * Neuroplasticity, changes in dendritic spine growth * Antioxidant effects (at lower doses), can produce oxidative damage at higher levels (psilocybin) * Reduction of psychological symptoms * Increased cognitive flexibility, creativity, openness
