This is a radically different idea than the advocacy Iβve seen for βdata portabilityβ and βdata sovereigntyβ. Itβs a *restructuring* of power rather than small adjustments to existing structures.
atproto and local-first, both in their own ways, demonstrate what such a restructuring can look like.
Hi! I'm the new Head of Communications @bsky.app.
I've been watching the open social web evolve over the past couple of years. Bluesky represents what I believe the future of the internet should look like: built on principles that put people first.
i really want the basketball, so here are my picks

βwhen thereβs a lot of traffic on a road, we donβt lock children up at home for the foreseeable future. Instead, we make the roads safer with traffic lights, crossings and 30 km/h speed limits β thus making it safer for everyone.β
so like, the whole "epic against monopolistic app stores" angle is like... an opinion google can just straight buy out?
there was a local news segment asking people around town bout a very vague (vercel?) tech ad and all of them were like idgaf itβs not for me and v confusing lmao
I wish this came up in comparing atproto to other social protocols. The repetitive discourse around decentralization is good and important, but the power dynamics of the interfaces that let use interact with these protocols is just as important, and seem like a distinctive characteristic of atproto.
Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

it was SO nice to talk @npmx.dev with @whitep4nth3r.com, @danielroe.dev, @patak.cat, and a ton of community members today. I fell in love with building because of strong communities and the contagious enthusiasm of people creating things. the energy around npmx feels the same, and I'm here for it
It has been so exciting to see @npmx.dev come together over the past month. We're proud to offer our support β this project is just getting started. Congrats on the launch!

the bar is low, but iβll take it
I had a great intro call with @patak.cat the other day about what it means to build together with open source, and how we can support each other.
If weβre going to go beyond commits, and focus on community and social contributions, we canβt be doing that on platforms owned by others.
this is open source
cant wait to see what the community has in store for npmx <3
Weβll be hosting members of the @npmx.dev community as speakers at #AtmosphereConf
@zeu.dev & @patak.cat are telling us of using atproto to add social features to npmx

congratulations @npmx.dev community!
i'm glad to be but a small part in this journey and i can't wait to see what the future holds for the project
Congrats on the alpha launch @npmx.dev! Y'all are amazing β€οΈ
Let me tell you an open source story. A very personal one. A story of growth, downward spirals, and recoveries. Of a multitude of converging communities building tools for themselves. A story of collaboration and trust. And hope.
Congrats to @npmx.dev on launching their alpha!
We share the same vision: making JavaScript developers more productive.
They chose to build on the VoidZero toolchain, and their feedback has already shipped real performance improvements back to the community.
This is open source at its best.
Netlify is sponsoring npmx.dev, a fast, modern browser for the npm registry.
Netlifyβs take: as AI expands who can build software, we have to keep investing in the open source infrastructure that makes the ecosystem work.

We're dreaming big with npmx. The way we'll make a lasting difference is by banding together. Check out @whitep4nth3r.comβs post to learn how to get involved in open source. Everyone is welcome.
