The Pentagon Unleashes Its Omnipresent, Unreliable AI System on Iran With the backing of Palantir, Anthropic, and other tech companies, Maven Smart System is reportedly playing a major role in America's war against Iran.

Silicon Valley built the Maven AI system for the American military. @alexshultz.bsky.social looks at the disastrous role Maven has played in the first few days of the Iranian war:

I assume the calculus for tapping Markwayne Mullin is you have to pick someone stupid enough to get excited about a job offer phone call from Donald Trump; someone who, in their excitement, does not consider how 2 years as DHS head under a lame duck is 100x worse than being a Senator in a safe seat

Actually, Jack Dorsey, AI Doesn’t Have to Be This Way As Americans lose their jobs, economists just published a paper that names the destructive ideology driving automation — and lays out what we’d have to do to change it to empower workers.

Jack Dorsey wants you to believe that mass layoffs are the future of tech to justify anti-worker AI. But a new economics paper offers policy directions to change that.

Behind the Pentagon’s botched AI negotiations, there is a former Uber executive. The authoritarian strongmen in the government have found the strongmen in tech.

As a media intern at Uber, @aristeinhorn.bsky.social heard that Emil Michael was an expert "dealmaker." A decade later, the Uber-Exec-turned-Pentagon-Undersecretary's participation in the Pentagon AI negotiations casts doubt on that.

Don't Be Fooled By Anthropic's Magnanimity Anthropic is taking a righteous stand against the Pentagon. The AI company and its CEO, Dario Amodei, also got greedy.

Just how righteous is Anthropic's stand against the Pentagon? After all, it was Dario Amodei's greed which got them into those government contracts...

Could whistleblowers be the ones to rein in prediction markets? Polymarket and Kalshi are blowing up. Although they are prime spaces for insider trading or money laundering to take place, they remain largely unregulated by the Trump administration.

In January, an anonymous trader made $400,000 on Polymarket by placing bids about Nicolas Maduro's arrest.

@aristeinhorn.bsky.social spoke to several whistleblower lawyers about the effect of insider trading on prediction markets:

YouTube: “Solving Kids Is a Massive Opportunity” “kids under 13 are the fastest-growing internet audience in the world.”

The AI That Wasn’t There Companies keep blaming artificial intelligence for layoffs. The real story is messier — and states are starting to notice.

"The displacement that states should be preparing for is real. But as companies continue to woo shareholders with talk of AI doing the work, we’ll need to sharpen our ability to read between the lines."

On art: "That impulse – the artist’s anguish, the need to make the private communicable – is something that will never go away. It’s the context that allows a piece of art to move people across space and time.

Anything produced by AI definitionally doesn’t have that context."

On OpenAI: "OpenAI did publish principles of what they will and won’t do with advertising. But the principles are very vague... they’re contradicted by simultaneous incentives to override them. Why should we trust them to hold to vague principles that they have billion-dollar reasons to override?"

I was one of those laid off. I agree that the Ohana sentiment seems dubious. I kinda felt that the culture within the company was more cult than strategic. Don’t get me wrong, lots of good people there and talent but the company didn’t end up being a good move for me. Unfortunately I went from a mid level position with 25 years of experience to sleeping in my car driving uber. Not sure if having them on my resume has hurt my employment opportunities or if it’s just the current state of the job market.

This internal message from Slack general manager Rob Seaman is also quite something: “I want to acknowledge the jokes that happened this morning at CKO. I cannot defend or explain them. They do not align with my personal values and I know this to be the case for many of you as well.”
