Episode 53 - Something catastrophic Can we use a single vaccine against chicken eggs to protect against literally every pathogen out there? Eh, probably not.

On the latest @audiommunity.org - No, we're probably not going to prevent all respiratory diseases with a chicken-egg vaccine, but it's still cool immunology! Plus, @woodrufflab.bsky.social and I kvetch about new NIH policies on peer review πŸ§ͺ

If you ever want to read a paper for free and can't find it otherwise, email the lead author and politely ask for a copy. You will not be bothering the person. You will in fact make their whole entire day. I have had scientists get so excited I asked they sent me everything they ever published.

The NIH Restructuring Congress Rejected Is Happening Anyway (I used Gemini Nano Banana 2 to create this fictional image.)

This piece by Elizabeth Ginexi is a must read. Trump, Vought, RFK and Bhattacharya are destroying the NIH simply ignoring the law and the US Congress. It’s illegal and immoral. The NIH Restructuring Congress Rejected Is Happening Anyway open.substack.com/pub/elizabet...

Does this include the whole "judges parole more people after lunch" finding?

On the one hand, it would be nice to know that that particular source of capricious justice is wrong. On the other, distressing to know I've been confidently asserting this falsely for years

It really annoys me that the AI boosters mention these kinds of breakthroughs in the same breath as things like chatGPT. The fact that chat bots can draft off of things like alpha fold to gain legitimacy is just dumb

Many autoimmune disorders are more prevalent in women than in men, though I don't know the extent to which hormones have been implicated.

Interesting that T is immunosuppressive in infection context (see other thread). I wonder if there's data on sex differences in *severity* of autoimmunity
