Haha. I'm glad all the pictures were worth it! Yes Chimera is pretty great.

New blog post, the second this month! π±
π₯οΈ Exploring Linux on a LoongArch Mini PC
I wrote about my early experience with M700S LoongArch based mini PC. Open it up to look inside, and install Linux on it. There's a bunch of pictures too.

Thanks a lot for this. I just got a M700S and your post was the first thing that came up detailing what the Loongnix password was. It also unfortunately confirmed that the noisy fan appears to be normal. /cc @hannes.muehleisen.org
The boxed copies of my Mac software that I sold at VCF Midwest this August had these registration postcards in them
I finally got my first reply mailed in, it's a Festivus miracle!

Some of the parts from my Prusa mini kit. There is a bag of Haribo in the top left.
Not exactly sure what size bag it is, but you can see the Haribo that came with my mini in this photo.
This filament-matching website and a Nix Mini 3 are a great combo for finding PLA that closely matches random things around you (my Mac Plus is \#bdb392)

Photo of a squat, scruffy bird sitting on a fence with its head turned to the side. The texture and colours of its feathers look almost exactly like tree bark.
We have a new resident Tawny Frogmouth! We've seen it a number of times now, and it was on the fence opposite our house when I took my walk after work last night.
I got the big lens and tripod out and got some photos. Fortunately they stay still, so this 7.5s exposure at night worked ok.
π¨βπ» New post! I wrote up my experience daily driving Chimera Linux during a recent two-week trip to Central Queensland. I needed to work as usual on the weekdays, so I had to set up my work environment including: #Mercury, #Rust, and #Zed.

awesome!
Great write up. I love the detail you went in to. I left comment on Lobsters that may be of interest to you. It would be interesting to see what your compile time looks like if you switch out the base docker image. lobste.rs/s/72hbqg/why...
Screenshot of my retro themed website, "Wes' Nonsense Website", open in IE4 on Mac OS 8.1. There's a happy sun animated GIF at the top of the page and a menu of links to Computers, Calculators, Pineapples, and Sunshine Coast. Under that is a News section and live energy stats about the server.
New post! I wrote up some details about building my home-hosted retro website, including the path taken to the current version, how it's deployed, and how fun it is to build with HTML4.

The missing guide to Zod!
didoesdigital.com/blog/zod-ove...
This TypeScript validation library is convenient for checking data like web form data. Define your schema once and enjoy the confidence of legit data and legit types!
I found the docs lacking, so I wrote this guide to fill in the gaps.
@practicallybetter.bsky.social love the site, small issue: the toothpaste post on the about page is broken (has /about/ in it)
It was a lucky find back in 2011 π
Thanks for writing this up. It provides another great reference for my own link blog at linkedlist.org I too was heavily influenced by @gruber.foo's writing on Daring Fireball. I'm still finding my feet with the project, but it is fun working it out.
"If using a fixed release Linux distribution that's shipping outdated software or toolchains", π―
I've been referring to the software these distros ship as outdated too, time to stop calling it "stable".
A network diagram showing a user at the top. An arrow from the user points downward to a node labelled Gcore GeoDNS. Three dashed arrows point down from the Gcore node to three servers labelled: AU, FR, and NY. Below the servers at the bottom of the diagram is another smaller server titled Qotom. It has arrows pointing up to each of the other servers with a label over the arrows, "Certs".

I built a tiny CDN for my website to reduce the latency for visitors in different parts of the world.
New post: I got around to trying out the Ubuntu build for Snapdragon X Elite based ARM laptops on my Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x. It works quite well!

"Australia Post has also indicated that it proposes to submit price notifications to the ACCC for further price increases in July 2026 and July 2027 as part of a future price path for stamped letters." π¦
linkedlist.org is now hosted on #ChimeraLinux using a mini-CDN/Edge network I built. I have a servers in Australia, France, and USA with GeoDNS selecting between them.
Is this needlessly complicated for such a low-traffic website? Yes, but I wanted to try to make it faster for more people.
Screenshot of my desktop. It's composed of two 24" 4K screens, the one on the right is rotated to portrait orientation. I'm running the awesome window manager. Each screen has nine workspaces. The left screen is running Firefox on the left, tiny IRC client in a split terminal on the right and a ssh session to a Chimera Linux VM below that. The right screen has a note open in Obsidian.
Yes!
