"Why exactly are we attacking Iran without any kind of provocation?" asks Iranian historian Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi. "This is a war that is not in the interests of the United States, and it only fulfills and realizes the desires of a regime in Israel that is promoting forever wars in the region."
Israeli analyst Ori Goldberg's says Netanyahu's decision to attack Iran is the result of an "exceedingly greedy" Israel that wants free rein to launch attacks throughout the Middle East.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, more than 550 people have been killed in Iran since Saturday, when the U.S. and Israel began an intense bombing campaign and assassinated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"These attacks by the U.S. and Israel are a clear violation of the foundational principle of the post-war legal order," says war crimes prosecutor Reed Brody about unprovoked U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. "It's obvious there was no such imminent attack."
Israeli analyst Ori Goldberg says that Israeli society is united in a "broad embrace" of war with Iran, as the country's opposition movement has effectively dissolved and liberal, right-wing, religious and settler groups have come together to back Netanyahu's violent campaign.
"I can't find any reason to celebrate the assassination of the Iranian supreme leader because I think it's part of a package ... It's also part of the killing of Iranian innocent people," says Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi, a longtime critic of the Iranian government.
