true but consider:
they're fun poison
Game dev update:
I am on page 11-N of squeakross
real past me
Me when I lie
Sigh
Another day
Another realisation that your layouts suck and you need to redo them
a fake ad for a 1995 game called "forbidden solitaire", it depicts a heart being held in a hand as well as various screenshots from the game. The text reads: "You'll play so much it will be IN YOUR BLOOD Solitaire like you've never seen it before. Engage in bloody, visceral card-based combat as you explore a dark, labyrinthian, long forgotten dungeon. From the creator of the best-selling Drakeflame Chronicles book series..."
The gameplay is very basic but works well, with different card types being slowly introduced to add more depth to it.
I love the fake OS and usage of DMs to tell the story, which lets you view some incredibly 90s media.
My only complaint is that I wish the exploration was less linear
yet another #steamnextfest demo "review"
Forbidden Solitaire!
A charmingly 90s horror game where you play a weird version of solitaire. Honestly, pretty fun and the horror elements add to it. (1/2)

(also yes shut up i know its not actually part of next fest but i played it during nextfest)
i will write one review until ive gone through to 20 or so demos i have somehow ended up with
god save me
really cool atmosphere and i love the idea. it IS fun to to rush nonograms
I think there's a lot of potential but it needs a deeper item pool for the roguelite elements to shine imo
I would also love for the nonograms to become pictures thats part of the charm of picross
i should do some quick shoutouts for #steamnextfest
because god knows i need more delays
First up! Cinicross! I've been getting into Picross recently so "roguelite picross" sounded fun. I'm also a huge nerd for dungeon crawlers.

<--- idiot who spent tonight redoing how items are applied to parse from a string instead of being hard coded
In my defense, doing this in gms1 was hell because ds objects suck
I love working on long solo projects because you inevitably decide to make your life easier when you improve and then end up going "what idiot wrote THIS?" when your improvements fuck something up
It was resh from 4 years ago and resh from 4 years ago was an idiot
heartbreaking: game dev forgets that by breaking the code thats shared between menus, that this shitpost is actually coming true
plan to do dev work: get incredibly sick and spend the day sleeping
plan to do Fucking Nothing: am fine and literally everything is Okay
i think my body is telling me something
upgrade
blade
One day I will gush about #rabbitandsteel it somehow has the best netcode ive seen and works perfectly even when you play with people halfway across the world
AND it's made in game maker, wild
Thank god I will never cultivate an audience or else I might actually need to post on social media. the horror.
why do i have crazy mechanics ideas when I game dev
that are hard and complicated
instead of writing stories or characters

good news, i cant procrastinate with this anymore
bad news, the pause menu is looking mighty tempting right about now...........
looking at my todo list only to realise nothing has changed in two months as i redid my entire main menu logic to be sane and made it look like an actual video game
progress???
I'm about to add in a way to change rooms mid-cutscene in a game where NOTHING is setup to handle that, solely so I can show a door opening.
"I should really finalise the content and get something that can be fully playtested"
The vile unimplemented quality of life feature:
on a completely unrelated note, Wow! My game feels so much better for some completely unknown reason!
It sure is great when you wake up and all of the long waits were solved overnight!
gamer protip: dont swap engines partway through development
especially dont swap from gms to gms2
dont ask how i know
if anyone asks what i was doing for the last 7 months
lets just say i got hit with an "unexpected" "development"
Good News: I have finally finished the cutscene I was working on which included 5 proprietary systems
Bad News: I have 4 more enemies to design, sprite, and animate.
See you in 2026!
a ms paint concept art detailing a "slime rat", a very tricky way of reusing the same animation once more despite not being anywhere near the point that asset reuse is acceptable
Today on "resh reuses assets"
