Hey all! What's up? Tell me something good!
Hey all! What's up? Tell me something good!
Finally! People are talking about the absurdity of the idea that there is only ONE WAY to be a professional voice actor. This argument lacks nuance and maturity and imagination. It's absurd to conclude that if, and only if, you are making 100% of your income via VA/Adjacent streams, are you a pro.
I mean, there are plenty of us who don't go that route. One thing I've learned about VO is that there are a lot of things people say are 'the right way' when really, it's just A way. While there are a few non-negotiables (IMO), a VO's path is up to them.
Hello! I am also Ash :)
The time for the imaginary echelon to be dismantled is nigh. You are the leader of your life, and there is no reason to wait for an external source to validate that. And they won't, because they're waiting for it, too. Bring your best to the table and ROAR!!!!!!
If there are any Colorado VOs out here, we've got a new FB VO group for you! Friend me there and I'll send you an invite.
If I'm seeing this correctly the whole thing is a shelf? Can you place those panels on some kind of wood and then lay that across shelf-shelf? Like, a lowered ceiling. We did something like that for mine.
Take "aspiring" off now. It's okay.
The construct that encapsulates the HOW TO of Voice Acting is still a box to be thought outside of. There are many ways to get from A-B, & while many have gone before-you may want to take a different route. Embrace that intuitive hit to not do it 'their' way, it will pay off over and over.
Did you say you wanted a character to sound "old" or do you mean mature, or even frail? If the character is 1-5 years away from dying a natural death caused by old age, then they're old. If they are just older than 30, then the word is mature
Yeah, WTF?
Amen!
Okay, now I've also seen the finale and WTH? And I don't mean the regeneration, I mean POPPY. WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT POPPY????!!!! What are we even talking about?
I could have watched so much more Jodie Whitaker! I waited a long time before getting into her episodes and I was so in love with her by the end.
I don't disagree. It's a bit, um, cheugy I think the word is? (which may be the same thing you're saying). It also seems too, I don't know, scrubbed clean? Like, the Doctor can't truly fall apart and not know what to do anymore, god forbid!
I'm saying it: Authentic casting should also apply to people in their 20's auditioning for characters in their 50's +. It's absurd.

So, be bad. Be the worst. You'll never survive if you spend your energy worried about being bad, so just be bad. Then, be better. Then good. Great. Wonderful. Sometimes bad again (it happens). Enjoy the ride and be accountable for yourself, that's all this is. HAVE FUN!
It's that time again when it needs to be said that, regardless of what's going on around you, finding a way to be at peace is your most important asset. Problems can't be solved, or even seen clearly, when we're losing our minds.
Acceptance is the quickest way to understanding.
Fuck "Fake it till you make it". Try "Borrow from your confidence" instead!
Why not?
When the world is in menopause, I like to make a shit-ton of sort-of healthy poutine. What's your go-to?
I heard on the internet that following your dreams without expectation of outcome makes one ageless. I'm gonna say that's true 😜
OOOoh, that's GOOD!
I use that advice, too! "evil" people can love themselves, too!!
#voiceactors What ways do you bring your life-observations into the booth? I'll go first: Most people operate from self-love or self-loathe, and I apply this idea to every character I play.
Mushroom tea!
