That said, it is an industry that is going to die out surely, given what sugar does to the body, and it's lack of actual nutrition. I gave up sugar and sweetened dairy etc a decade ago and really have not missed it. Where is the sugar tax going tho I wonder?

The world is run by a "gentlemen's club" of sorts, it seems. There are no teeth nor any objectivity when it comes to one of the gentlemen (or two or three of them) who are out of order themselves.

ERP migrations seem to be terrible news. Wonder if there are amazing success stories and how they got it right. Look at that Oracle one in the UK with the municipality that was bankrupted.

Yes that's a good point. The science they mentioned was really it was less effort to hold in bed and turn pages, and has no bright blue back light. That was the gist of it. The point was it does not need to be plugged in for quite long periods as it has a battery that runs for weeks.

Once the power is off for extended periods, water ceases to be pumped and treated, sewerage blocks, food deliveries stop, communications break down, petrol stations can't pump fuel, and that all tends to migrate towards demonstrations and food rioting. That becomes more important than reading.

19.02.2026 14:24 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

What I meant was, it will read fine for a month without needing any charging. So will work fine without any power. But if your power is off for two weeks you're going to have street riots and food issues second to none. Reading won't be anyone's concern.

We had rolling blackouts for months with 4 hours on and then off all day long — it would have to be off a full month before I ran out of battery. There would be way bigger issues to worry about than reading after a week plus of zero power ;-)

18.02.2026 21:36 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

True, but it has a battery gauge, and once a month is not often. Many use phones happily that must be charged daily.
