Even if there's a hypothetical way to make a palatable RE5 remake, I don't trust Capcom to pull it off
Playing a bit of Hoverflow, a first-person speedrun platformer that came out recently. It feels great, with a beefy story mode, unlockable modes, etc.
The core mechanic is Counter-Strike style surfing, but simplified. Surf panels maintain velocity just by landing on them - aim down to accelerate.

RE7 is also decent for a toe dip, as it's the closest thing to a self-contained story in the series. It also brings back mechanics from older games, while being a bit more lenient (esp compared to RE1 remake)

Hot take: Lotta folks got in on the original RE4, it still holds up, and it's probably an easier entry than 1 or 2 if you don't play much traditional survival horror.
