I'm seeing a little extra pushback against Ash Wednesday this year from certain evangelical corners. "Ashes are pagan!" "Ash Wednesday violates the Regulative Principle!" etc.
God help me, my inner reaction was: "It makes sense. American evangelicalism is allergic to humility and repentance."

Talking about distracted driving and distracted walking as if they are similar problems is ludicrous. You are simply not going to kill someone by bumping into them while walking!

I will be doing my usual break from social media (other than LinkedIn because that's a work thing) for Lent, starting tomorrow.
Since I have some automatic deletion of posts, it might start to look like I have abandoned this account, but I will be back.

What is infinitely infuriating is that no one is discussing how to stop any company from collecting data on us.
There are simple solutions here. But our government doesn't regulate anything, so all we get is nationalism and phobias as a security platform.

Will your Chinese-made EV spy on you?
YouTube video by CBC News: The National
Itβs funny to hear this report list all the ways Chinese data collection could be a threat when the US does the same things and poses a much greater threat given Trumpβs 51st state comments. Thereβs only a brief acknowledgement at the end that the US isnβt trustworthy either.

I think the biggest improvement from last year isn't the US vs World division; it's that there aren't super long breaks in the middle of games for social media influencer bits that make me completely forget there's supposed to be basketball happening.

I'm mostly cheering for the World team to win because it's got a Canadian (plus another injured), a couple former Raptors, a current Raptors coach, and some of the most fun players in the league.
But I'm also a little bit cheering for the US to lose, because obvious reasons in 2026.

I definitely feel like Outlook's junk filtering has gotten a lot more aggressive in recent years. A good portion of things not from somebody in my address book ends up in junk. Even bulk mailings I signed up for end up in there if in the past I've deleted those messages too quickly.

note: Nadella did not say 30% of MS code is vibed, he said "maybe 20 to 30 percent of the code that is inside of our repos today in some of our projects are probably all written by software" which is a statement so hedged to not be making a claim. His cheerleaders did the rest.
