The problems of a parasocial relationship...

The "other" side of a one-sided relationship doesn't realize they're even in one. What might feel like a private aside with a friend looks like any other post to the "other." With no extra candor or reverence applied, the response seems harsh.

Here's a thought for comparison:

For sake of argument, let's assume 'you¹' believe in global warming. The court house doesn't have a ramp for someone to walk up. Should we not use concrete to build a stable, long lasting ramp if curing will release CO²?

In this case, the AI is addressing a non-monetary need that would otherwise go unfilled.

Regarding the assumption it was created by an LLM, I can understand the argument, though I'm not certain I agree. I don't like AI - even based on licensed works - taking away creative jobs or providing someone else cumulative monetary value.

Regarding the volume and detail of the text, as someone who doesn't rely upon alt-text to gain context from a photo, I didn't feel comfortable dictating what would actually be of use. Some may appreciate getting a complete picture and not narrowed description.

I am truly curious...

09.03.2026 18:05 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

Is this a misunderstanding of the difference in where an AI classification dataset is captured vs. that for an LLM?

If the person is against any "AI," are they not using auto-focus on cameras, voice assistants, voice-to-text, email spam filters or classifiers - or any algorithmic social media feed?

I'm actually interested to understand what the person's thought is. By using arguments against AI art in a criticism against AI classification, it appears they are in the "fully against AI {machine learning} for any use case" camp.

My first science video in 3 years YouTube video by Physics Girl

For those of you who haven't noticed, @thephysicsgirl.bsky.social just posted her first physics video since contracting a nearly fatal case of Long COVID several years ago. It's great to see how much she's improved, and I really look forward to seeing her get back into making more science content.

In reflection, I'm really glad last year's Operation Midnight Hammer was such a success where we obliterated Iran's nuclear program.

Maybe it already happened and is what enabled Anna's Archive to become a reality. A different kind of breach and it would make me feel a little more schadenfreude.

Perfectly valid installation technique. In addition to the automatic defragging presented, the compression on the bottom side of the NVMe brings the atoms closer together, making it faster, while the tension on the top side spreads them further apart, improving cooling.

How Did the FBI Get Nancy Guthrie's Nest Doorbell Footage? The FBI produced footage from Nancy Guthrie's Nest doorbell, despite it being disconnected.

@lifehacker.com This raises a severe trust issue. If the camera was disconnected from the cloud, it shouldn't have been transmitting any data to the cloud to be found in "backend systems."

This is quite disturbing, but not surprising. Even though the Guthrie's Nest camera didn't have a subscription to capture and store video, Google still has access to it.

I am generally on your side. I think the user base is more accepting because it doesn't feel like they are continuing to find new ways to extract rent. As in, if I buy a base game on Steam, they don't force me pay them 30% for season pass or for in-game currency (not that I ever buy any...)

Obviously not something Sam would want take on, just applying that same mindset around corporate ethics and supporting workers to allow people to just do their jobs right.

@hankgreen.bsky.social I just finished the Decoder interview with @samreich.bsky.social and it made me think: if it could get past the initial bubble to profitability, Dropout might be an interesting biz model for news content. No sponsors, a focus on journalistic integrity and primary sources..?

When I was just out of high school I worked with someone (mid-30's-at-the-time female) that claimed to be his cousin. I never knew whether she was just trying to impress the young kids...

Let me know if you'd like help being a set of hands, eyes, or ears when setting up the OBS and streaming stuff. Sometimes it's helpful just knowing you are actually live and the audio is making it through okay.
