Leeds United 3-0 Norwich City: Weekend off
I'm content for Joel Piroe to pop up on a weekend like this, when we had much to fear, and finish off a move and a game with the nonchalance we needed to get over the rut we were getting in.
Because there is no escaping Premier League survival's shadow of necessity this match was important for saving the mood, before going to Crystal Palace, from its pessimistic momentum.
You could see another defeat coming for #LUFC. Then β you couldn't.

The highest praise I can give to Joel Piroe's finish is that it was like watching David Batty pass wide to Dorigo.
It was delivered with the confidence that was Batty's trademark, by a player who hasn't hit the net for #LUFC in almost a year.
You wouldn't know it.

Champions League 2001: Real Madrid vs Leeds United
Don Revie sometimes felt his Leeds team were cursed in their attempts to emulate Real Madrid, and this rainsoaked Madrid night of 2001 felt eerily familiar, of being a game beyond Leeds United's control.
Marca published three pages about the incident, declaring RaΓΊl had tarnished Real Madrid's reputation.
The headline was, 'It's handball', and a picture of RaΓΊl celebrating was placed next to one of Maradona punching the ball past Shilton in 1986.

After skying his shot McManaman might have been oddly pleased to hear 'Shit scouse bastard' echoing around the Bernabeu.
Madridistas were less pleased with the travelling #LUFC fans 'olΓ©ing' every yellow shirt's pass, and there were plenty, around the 25th minute.

Leeds United 4-0 Norwich City: Bringing it all together
Where had all this been? There was so much more of it. Twice in a first half minute first Rutter then Gnonto went Maradona mode, slaloming upfield with the ball at their feet, evading tackles, gathering speed towards the goal(s) of the century(ies).
Perhaps because winning and losing are so ephemeral they've been usurped by narratives.
So wins only count if they 'end' in something bigger, as if football ever truly 'ends'.
As if there's anything in football truly bigger, in the end, than a night like this.

A photo of Gnonto, Nmecha and Gudmundsson celebrating a Leeds goal from earlier in the season, alongside the twelve foot purple rabbit that we all remember being there at the time. Right? We all saw that? Right?
Ah, so the #LUFC Sunderland game didn't actually happen, turns out I'm just on loads and loads of drugs

Leeds United 0-1 Sunderland: Tell-tale
Suddenly, the Championship's dread grudges resume beating under the floorboards. Next season could bring Millwall, Middlesbrough and Frank Lampard's Coventry together with Sunderland, all specific, irrational problems for Leeds United. Eight games you can afford to miss, right there.

I mean, sure, argue with team selection, tactics, timing of subs, whatever and all and fine
But just give #LUFC our rightful penalty here and a lot of that stuff gets a lot easier

It was brief β that line three times, then segued into/drowned out by a much louder 'Sky TV is fucking shit'.
I was back of west in press bit, couldn't say where it was coming from but because that's three long rows of journos you can sometimes hear more from there because people around are quiet

Manchester City 1-2 Leeds United: A Madman Has A Team
I know Bielsa will always love Newell's the most, and one football fan to another I respect that he'll never change. But dear me Leeds must run them close.
He overmatches the game.
You don't need Bielsa's coaching to win things β history shows quite the opposite.
Working so hard to fail so hard is what makes him look like a madman.
But Stuart Dallas and #LUFC give Bielsa's methods the reason that lifts them out of madness.
