The big secret about Rocky is that it's actually a weird, quiet, 70s as hell personal drama that also is so fucking inspirational that it makes you wanna run through a wall. But the loud doesn't work without the quiet.

I think perhaps there's a kind of cultural weight to the franchise that drags it down in some eyes, but I'll tell you right now: the original Rocky is one of the greatest films of all time. It's a goddamn miracle of a movie. Lightning in a bottle.
