For clarity, this thread is starting from a condemnation of specific parents who would petition the government for the right to sue schools for respecting social transition without outing the kid to the parents.
Many parents might feel frustrated and left out. Only bad parents would call for this.

Children exploring gender and identity might not be ready to discuss these things with parents first. A trust-based family dynamic means that's alright.
"I'm always there for you about anything, we can talk when you're ready. I get it." is trust extended without demand, room to try things out.
A thread about how forcing these discussions into unreceptive families can initiate indignant, reflexive, responses and digging in defensively that can ultimately lead to regret.
This is true, but also, I think what people don't understand is how informing on kids who are trying out a nickname and a pronoun raises the stakes in way that could drive the inappropriate transitions and regret, the thing we're supposed to be so scared of.
Let me explain.

I DON'T THINK SO! GOVERNMENT!!! GET THEM!! THEY LET MY CHILD OUT OF THE BOX!!!!"
May I introduce you to a much worse option but for different reasons (zero adoption, less ease of use, etc.)
THE REASON YOUR KID MIGHT SOCIALLY TRANSITION WITHOUT TALKING TO YOU IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE CREATED AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE TALKING TO YOU ABOUT THEIR NEEDS. INVESTIGATE THAT.
Instead of investigating schools for respecting kids' wishes, the environment where the kid is forced to hide should be investigated, if the true goal is to protect the kids.
Of course, that's not the goal.
Parents should talk to their kids instead of using the government to threaten their schools.
The well-being of children in a family should be the family's business, certainly. The way to access this business is by creating a safe home where there is trust and open communication.
