When I do use wood boards I like poplar, sometimes pine (even tho it warps), cedar. Recent fav is actually Paulownia, which I can get in nice sizes from Japanese dollar store.

Legit! (And it’s good u don’t wanna buy it cuz I sold it years ago). I’m really glad you can appreciate the precision, I was in a phase of pushing that aspect in my work. I’m pretty sure it was actually a basswood panel (usually I use cut boards and forgot this one wasn’t.)

Acrylic on wood panel. I used acrylic ink for the neon red, as a result this painting took about 5x as long as normal, as it had to be built up in many layers to be opaque enough.

Caught a raven “surfing” the other day in Alviso. I’ve seen videos of them doing this, but never caught it in person. I wonder if it’s a behavior that’s spread outside of California or if it’s just here?? Anyone know?

Found a hummingbird trapped in a bathroom at a park the other day.. had to borrow a step stool from nearby volunteer fire department and break out my rusty jungle-gym skills, but finally managed.m a rescue. Was prepared to take to a rehabber but he flew right off as soon as we got outside.

God.. once I made a suit with neon fur and it was genuinely upsetting because I kept finding fluff everywhere including -outside-. Honestly it’s part of why I haven’t made any new suits in a while X)

I feel it’s kind of insane considering if we work together we can collectively lift each other up as artists. In all honesty, I can think back to mid 2000’s.. everything always felt like a huge popularity contest, including backbiting, and it sucked. Some things never change lol. Highschool shit.

I’d probably quit tabling if I could support the output/market to be surviving off originals, but it’s just not possible and my disabled ass needs some kind of income that’s not massively labor intensive. Regardless, I have extremely mixed feelings, esp considering environmental impact :(

I definitely feel you despite the fact that I occasionally have a big display table at some cons. It’s definitely a move away from what the community used to be and I think to some degree it can stifle the creativity of the community as a whole.. (then again, the whole culture has changed a lot).
