Beautiful! From Corvallis, I didn't get such a good sky, but the Three Sisters looks grand

It'll be awkward having a US state called Iceland just across the water from a country with the same name

Pleased to have been involved in this study. I'm always keen to see how tides affect ice, and it still surprises me that moving kilometer-thick ice up and down by just a meter or so can affect grounded ice flow tens of kilometers inland.

It's been a really tough start to 2026, and no sign it'll get better. Gotta get out to enjoy the sunny days. A Hooded Merganser couple at our local pond.

Trump moves to dismantle major US climate research center in Colorado The Trump administration is breaking up the National Center for Atmospheric Research, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.

Trump administration plans to break up NCAR. Stated reason: "It's a center for climate alarmism" and "studying offshore wind turbines". But later in the article they suggest its retribution for CO gov not releasing Tina Peters

Tweet from Russ Vought:

The National Science Foundation will be breaking up the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. This facility is one of the largest sources of climate alarmism in the country. A comprehensive review is underway & any vital activities such as weather research will be moved to another entity or location. πŸ‘‡

Included is a link to a USA today story about the regime’s plan to dismantle NCAR.

I’m not a confrontational person but if I saw him in person, I would absolutely tell him to go fuck himself.

Please, watch Kimmel first, then end with Seth Meyers' eulogy to Reiner. Kimmel's right, but this murder shouldn't be tied to jokes about Trump. Seth honors Reiner and gets Trump's smallness and meanness across without pretending any of this is funny

I'm not going to AGU but this is a good reason not to. Decades ago, AGU stopped using NO for Ocean Sciences to protest David Duke. Here it's the Feds, not Louisiana, that's the problem, but you want Red states to check the Feds out of self-interest

I hate RFK Jr too, and am glad that Ms Schlossberg included his callous damage in her article. But it shouldn't overwhelm the main message from an excellent young writer facing a terminal diagnosis. Everyone should read the full essay, especially the empathy-impaired

The posted excerpt is powerful. But read the article in full: so many people are in this situation and you need a fine writer to tell us how they see themselves as a first step to knowing how to best communicate with them.

Sheffield charity given grant to fit 'swift bricks' in homes The Sheffield Swift Network was given Β£7,000 by the council for a project to help the birds nest.

Specially designed bricks that provide safe nesting spaces for swifts are being installed on properties around Shirebrook Valley as part of a council-funded environmental scheme.
