Alex the guinea pig spent the week in a classroom through our “Foster Friends” program, teaching students about care and handling! Now he’s back at the shelter and ready for adoption. Come meet him!

You can help keep our local wildlife safe. Small steps like putting away sport nets when not in use can make a big difference. If you see an animal in need of assistance call us at 703-777-0406.
This fox had no other medical concerns and was released back just a few hours later. We’re very grateful to the community member who contacted us right away. Because of their quick action, we were able to secure and help him before any injuries occurred.
The officers were able to remove the net from his legs on scene, but the material was tightly wrapped around his neck so with the help of Kristi's Caring Hands Wildlife Rehab, the fox was transported to Blue Ridge Wildlife Center where he was sedated and the remaining netting was removed.

Just before the New Year, HLEO Henry and Deputy Chief Smokoska responded to a call about a fox that had become trapped in a net. When they arrived, they found the fox completely entangled. He had dragged the net into a fence line, which caused it to wrap even tighter around his body.
