Now they're skirting US law to own more stations.
This group does the best work.
Who owns the air?
We all do.
Broadcast giants from iHeart to CBS broadcast over the same air we breathe because gov't grants them licenses to broadcast - only if they "serve the public interest."
That the LAW, folks.
And Fairness to ALL sides is in the public interest, yes?
Blame CBS on this one.
News should not be promotional, Talk shows can be.
If a broadcast network promotes one candidate on our air, give opponents Equal Time.
This rule applies not only to TV but to Talk Radio Shows which routinely promote candidates.
It is about Fairness.
Also We the Peoples' ownership of airwaves! 👇
When @cbsnews.com or its local affiliates interview a candidate who is coming through town, it is presumably for informational news value. They don't have to seek out the opposing candidates for bonafide news coverage.
Years ago, network talk shows were deemed to be bonafide news.
But are they? 👇
Colbert could've had Senate candidate @jamestalarico.bsky.social on his show if the network provided opportunities for his opponents to also be on CBS' air (on Colbert's show or elsewhere.)
That's only fair.
The Equal Time Rule applies to non-bonafide news shows.
Let's unpack that. 👇
A different take:
CBS could have aired Colbert's interview w/ Texas Dem Senate candidate @jamestalarico.bsky.social but didn't want to provide Equal Time.
The @FCC demands network TV talk shows adhere to its "Equal Time Rule."
CBS misplayed its hand on this, and for once I'm with the FCC.

. @colbertlateshow.bsky.social, let's talk abt CBS not airing Stephen Colbert's interview w/ Texas Democratic Senatorial candidate @jamestalarico.bsky.social.

Did you know that YOU legally own the airwaves over which TV and Radio broadcast?
Yep.
Anybody here want to learn how to organize around that principle? That's what we do at Media Action Center.
We get results and make a difference.

All broadcasting is local.
Every radio and TV station is licensed to serve its local community.
Did you know you can even petition the government to end a station's license to broadcast? (No? Well, they don't want you to know that.)
Broadcast media policy wonks, the NexstarTegna merger touted by President Trump legally must go through Congress.
Thanks @mattfieldwood.bsky.social for updates.
Went with "other" because they didn't have a "you fired all the journalists" option.
I subscribed for more than 20 years.
Who remembers when Sunday morning shows would put two politicians of opposing parties on at the same time and let them duke it out?
Much better than having a show host ask a few hard questions but allowing guests to answer something else.

Sinclair Broadcasting is reporting unproven (very possibly political) California fraud allegations as fact.
Their national reports appear in millions of local TV viewers' homes.

The Andrew Jackson playbook whose portrait hangs in the White House.
"Jackson had 'sportively' suggested calling on the Massachusetts state militia to enforce the order if the Supreme Court requested he intervene, because Jackson believed Northern partisans had brought about the court's ruling."
