The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

Bari Weiss has always been particularly hackish about free speech for me but not for thee, even with some stiff competition. And there have also been positive surprises: FIRE turned out to be more principled than I had expected a few years ago for example
I love how incredibly predictable this was. Over the last 4 years I’ve updated to place more value on genuine protections for free speech while having ever less respect for the people who claim to make free speech their whole thing.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are all good things. They don’t happen automatically, we have to actively work to bring them about. Shout it from the rooftops.
