“So long as men are not trained to withhold judgment in the absence of evidence, they will be led astray by cocksure prophets, and it is likely that their leaders will be either ignorant fanatics or dishonest charlatans.”

The Albanese Government's case for crackdown on FOI fell apart when it became clear that there is no "flood" of FOI requests.
Case load is about the same as 20 years ago. The extra costs and delays are a result of FOI officers spending their time trying to block access and censor documents.

In the past, sometimes presidents have said it’s just a military operation or limited airstrikes to skirt Congress. Trump has unilaterally launched major combat operations, declaring war with the goal of regime change. A major violation of the U.S. Constitution, also illegal under international law

I remember how the “shock and awe” of the US attack on Iraq ended in decades of broken cities, broken people and broken promises. Trump’s and Netanyahu’s bombs today can only produce more of this in Iran. Australia must reject this illegal attack.

Graph from NetBlocks showing network connectivity in Iran from February 24, 2026, to February 28, 2026. The y-axis represents normalized connectivity, ranging from 0% to 100%, and the x-axis represents the dates. The green line representing Iran's connectivity normal most of the time period, with a sharp drop on the morning of February 28. The drop in connectivity aligns with joint military strikes from the US and Israel. The minimum and current connectivity levels are indicated as 4% and 4%, respectively. The chart has a dark background with a red circle highlighting the decline at the end of the period and includes the NetBlocks logo in the lower left corner.
⚠️ Confirmed: Network data show #Iran is now in the midst of a near-total internet blackout with national connectivity at 4% or ordinary levels. The incident comes amid US and Israeli combat operations and matches measures used during last year's war with Israel.

Title: Vetting the ISIS brides. Two frames. 1. Man with clipboard inside entrance of tent talking to woman in full burqa nursing baby with two small kids playing beside on the dirt floor. Man says: “Just a few questions…Are you: bigoted? Lacking compassion? Have you scant regard for due process and the presumption of innocence?” 2. Same scene, man continues: “If ‘yes’ to all those, you satisfy the “Australian values” test as demonstrated by our political class, and we look forward to bringing you home.”

Aside from this being incorrect - the underlying rule on sovereignty and statehood is the Montevideo Convention, which doesn’t imply defence capabilities - this is illuminating on what is now pseudo-official U.S. policy: any territory you cannot defend is fair game for someone else

Australia has an opportunity to get out of AUKUS. We should take it.
We ask the Albanese Government to prioritise Australia's interests and security, and to join the UK and the US Governments in undertaking an independent parliamentary inquiry into AUKUS.

AUKUS has tied Australia to a sinking nuclear defence enterprise called the United Kingdom. It’s not just a retired UK Admiral, the UK Audit office has tracked the structural failures for years. But don’t worry, Marles and Meade say it’s “on track” - they are dangerously deluded

Guardian Essential poll: Australians back emissions target while One Nation support doubles
Poll finds One Nation’s primary vote has doubled to 13% since the May federal election
Australia's racist party doubles its support since the May 2025 election
Centrist Labor government will absolutely see this as a sign that it needs to be more racist (and in doing so, actively feed more support for One Nation and lose support for themselves)

Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, major UN report finds
Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide in Gaza, according to the "most authoritative assessment" to date.
What is the threshold for sanctioning PM Netanyahu and his govt?!
Signatories to the genocide convention like 🇦🇺 must take action in the face of genocide, including taking measures to stop it.
The global community has to do more.

Stop Killing Journalists
YouTube video by withMEAA
Israel has killed more journalists in the last 22 months than were killed in the US civil war, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan combined.
The numbers are simply unprecedented - these are their names

Labor keeps ‘dire’ climate report under wraps
The government has delayed the release of a “shocking” assessment of global warming’s effect on the economy, just weeks before its 2035 target decision.
Concerning reports the unreleased National Climate Risk Assessment is “dire” and “diabolical”.
It maps what the people & places we love stand to lose from climate change.
We should know this before the govt sets our 2035 emissions target
Release it now.

One of the reasons Twitter became the place for govt feeds was that it used to be possible to view all of (non-private) Twitter without being logged in, hence making it function like a mini blog. That ended under Musk, and really should have been the end of it.
