writing sick dark sad dystopian fiction and then you look over and see this
Oh hey this will definitely make me cry can’t wait
The podcast also begins today. Co-hosted by @jon.inkle.co and @sagarberoshi.bsky.social of @thechineseroom.co.uk: we'll interview Kaleidoscope authors about their article and their craft.
The first two eps are live, including Darby McDevitt, writer of Black Flag, on subverting gameplay for drama
It ME!

boss the fascism
i know why game devs keep doing this with enemy design ("acceptable" target, shouldn't be but it is) and i hope, sometime in my lifetime, it ends. remember the boomer in l4d? what if we gave him a backstory file about how he was trying to lose weight? re: requiem! www.mothership.blog/you-know-wha...
Definitely agree
Yeah, I would’ve said the same, but Eloise agrees with her! She says something about the fact she’s waking up to the “power of love” too
Bleh
Maybe I’m wrong, and they’ll figure this out by the time we get to Eloise. But I Have Fear
The message seems to be: we don’t need to change society, you just have to marry a man who treats you like an equal
Which! Ew! A cool husband isn’t going to manifest a right to vote or open a bank account, Cressida
I like the show for what it is, but it always trips over itself in Eloise’s stories because it’s not ready to grapple with feminism in this era (or any). It was always default to the shallow—wrong—idea that marrying a good man = a cure for inequality
I finished + overall liked the latest season of Bridgerton, but hooboy the bit about “this prominent feminist writer undervalues love” was yikes on bikes
Hahaha absolutely stealing this method. I’ll tie on my pearls and ✨dream✨
I’m definitely going to! I’m trying to read all the books I own but have never read by the end of the year, first 😅
:(
Phew okay shoving up my shirtsleeves
I don’t mind unlikable characters at all, it’s just the pacing so far that’s killing me (and I say this realizing it’s an Austen novel, but I’m generally fine with a slow start)
That ellipsis is ominous lol
Oh no I’ve never read Ethan Frome
How… was that?
I do like how clear-eyed Austen is about each of these characters, their positive and negative traits. That’s fun
After ripping through Wuthering Heights pretty easily, I decided to charge into Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” and … hooboy. It’s taken me a week to read 27 pages.
Internet friends, does it pick up? Am I doomed? 3 chapters of “should this horrible debt-riddled man rent his house or nah?” were…hard
Children are suffering in a for-profit prison.
Send them home. Abolish ICE. And ban private, for-profit prisons forever.
"The Islamists oppose women getting an education," I mutter, as I aim my missile at the girls school
Truly, it’s incredible
And honestly I loved it. Is it accurate? God no. Is it a fever dream I would totally see again? Hell yeah
House? Flawlessly distressing. Wall of Sound? Agonizingly beautiful yearn. Chains of Love? Sure why the fuck not. It’s such a great score
my favorite character in wuthering heights is charli xcx
LET’S GOOOO!
