A group of people at a protest holds signs. Below, text reads: "Students Could Face Harsh Penalties for Protests as Campuses, States Tighten Restrictions. Read the full blog on pen.org."
The image is a text quote from Kristen Shahverdian, Director of Campus Free Speech at PEN America. The quote discusses the theme of anxiety and fear in the academic year, mentioning high-profile arrests and a crackdown on expression, leading to concerns about exercising constitutional free speech rights.
A new Texas law restricting protests on college campuses means that "the theme of this academic year is anxiety and fear,β says Kristen Shahverdian, program director of campus free speech at PEN America. Learn more at: https://pen.org/harsh-penalties-for-protests-on-campus/

"The stories of the genocide in Gaza are unbearably difficult to tell, but I believe they are most truthfully carried in a poem, surrounded by an expanse of white space that mirrors both silence and grief."

βI had to run in every direction, to explore this life myself.β
In Hassan Akramβs A Plan to Save the World (translated from Arabic by Ibrahim Fawzy), childhood idealism clashes with the stark realities of living through war in a boyβs mission to not only save the world, but himself.

This is murder. ICE routinely deposits released detainees far from their home just to be cruel. Itβs standard practice. To do this to a blind man on a wet cold winter day in Buffalo is to know you are potentially sending him to his death.

In Minnesota, despite showing documents proving active immigration cases, pending visas, or even US citizenship, residents were arrested and detained by ICE for days or weeks.
But many who were later set free are now encountering a new challenge: ICE isnβt giving back their immigration documents.

Black graphic with a shape of a child's head filled with red dots to symbolize kids in ICE detention. White and red text reads "ICE has detained at least 3,800 children under the second Trump administration."
The average public school in the U.S. has 500 students. ICE is currently detaining over 7 schools' worth of children, many of whom are being held in inhumane conditions.
Children do not belong in government detention.
I went on Fox News yesterday morning to explain that while the focus is on Minneapolis, Trump is trampling rights everywhere. All over the country, thousands of LEGAL immigrants, including little kids, are being disappeared.
That's what happens in Putin's Russia, not America.

Trump reversed decades of national security objections to selling advanced AI chips to UAE. National security experts were alarmed.
But there was a secret. Before the deal, UAE had sent $187M to the Trumps and $31M to the Witkoffs in secret payments.
Mind blowing corruption.
