Honestly man, Stardew is probably the least problematic example of this.

Most of the big content updates have only expanded the endgame, iirc. Each time you come back it's only to stuff you wouldn't have missed out on going through anyway.

Basically, you can treat Stardew updates like expansions.

This won't be true in every case, Digimon and Pokemon are unique from each other
