If you don't understand why your trans friend is scared right now then you don't have a trans friend. You know a trans person.

Yes. I didn’t really imagine arbitrarily allowing subclassing though I’m not a priori opposed. I’d probably rather lean into trait objects though.

yes, for enums. i.e., an "enum" is a baseclass.

Resizeable data structures like vec and hashmap are on the heap. I intend to allow classes to be declared as “boxed” as well which would make them heap allocated. Otherwise stack.

🔎 Overview
MyST - Markedly Structured Text - Parser A Sphinx and Docutils extension to parse MyST, a rich and extensible flavour of Markdown for authoring technical and scientific documentation. Get Started L...
Neat. I'm excited. Let's talk next week? I'm recovering from Rust Nation. Side note but I chose the syntax deliberately to be compatible with MyST -- myst-parser.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ -- which seems to me to be the most sensible markdown variant out there, and which also works with sphinx.

I think there must be some misunderstanding. Ref-count increments are shallow. So if you have an array of 10 shares of the same array, that would lead to 10 increments of the *array's* ref-count, but not the ref-counts of its contents.

String Literals - Dada Language Specification
Oh, this looks cool Amos! I should show you some of what I've been doing with Dada and its spec. Maybe we can converge. The basic idea is to have RFCs, then to convert those to spec paragraphs tagged with the RFC-ID and with `unimpl`. Then remove that tag as I make tests + implement.

New Dada blog post smallcultfollowing.com/babysteps/bl... -- things start to diverge from Rust in a deep way and I think the first where we start to see some real advantages to the Dada way of doing things (and some of the tradeoffs I made to achieve those advantages).

I've learned by now not to make promises about my posting schedule, but I do find that posting things on my blog makes me happier. I'm going to see if I can bang out short posts that cover the things on my mind on a more regular basis.

An API for 'mostly deterministic' scripting using ACP agents. - symposium-dev/determinishtic
Interesting read! This feels related: github.com/symposium-de... Blending deterministic + agent-based reasoning enables lets you do cool things like github.com/nikomatsakis.... My friend @dherman.dev has been doing a lot more in this direction with thinkwell.sh -- really cool stuff.

Things that suck: the UK ETA app. I mean, the concept, well whatever, they want to tax me and call it "security" fine, but can they at least make an app that doesn't take 5-10 minutes to proceed through each stage?

I'm having an incomprehensible problem: I WANT to open VsCode's Chat UI, and I can't figure out how! When was the last time that the problem was not being able to figure out how to get an AI extension to appear, rather than the reverse??
