I don't mean to blame the user, I say this because I feel like this story could have been framed as a moment to teach people the difference and maybe inform people how to achieve anonymity.
I feel like privacy and anonymity are fairly different? I use Proton so they can't share the contents of my email, but as soon as I used my CC to pay for the account I assumed they would have to keep that data on file? If I wanted anonymity I would use the option to pay via crypto or cash.

That is short sighted of me. Knowing Meta, the only way to opt-out will be maintaining an instagram account so they can keep tab on what you look like.
I can imagine that deleting my instagram account will be the only opt out option they provide for the feature... and I will happily do it.
