I didn’t love that aspect of either series, for the reason you articulate. I was more comfortable with the astrology in Lymond because *they* would have believed but I did not love the divining in Niccolò because it drove the plot beyond what the characters could have made happen themselves.

Exactly - it’s ok if they aren’t using Dickensian language but once we move to something that wouldn’t stand out on TikTok I can’t cope.
I don’t like extremely contemporary language in historicals and this would really bug me.
