ICE agent asked why he's taking pictures of a legal observer's car, replies: "Cuz we have a nice little database and now you're considered a domestic terrorist. So have fun with that."
America is now at the heavily armed secret police doing warrantless door-to-door house raids in search of undesirable ethnicities and/or political dissenters stage. The difference from well known historical cases is down to scale.
Ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee Bennie G. Thompson said in a statement “Mobile Fortify is a dangerous tool in the hands of ICE, and it puts American citizens at risk of detention and even deportation.” He also said “ICE officials have told us that an apparent biometric match by Mobile Fortify is a ‘definitive’ determination of a person’s status and that an ICE officer may ignore evidence of American citizenship—including a birth certificate—if the app says the person is an alien. ICE using a mobile biometrics app in ways its developers at CBP never intended or tested is a frightening, repugnant, and unconstitutional attack on Americans’ rights and freedoms.”
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

@chris.manson.ie's herculean efforts are why vite landed in 6.8 🎉
Shipping proper (deprecations, CLIs, docs, tutorials, etc), is A TON of work, and the community helped get us there - esp on the docs and tutorials side - thank you to all who submitted a PR, opened an issue, or chatted in Discord!!
Ember.js 6.8 release looks like some nice steps forward. Great to have the equivalent of tracked-builtins now, well, built-in! blog.emberjs.com/ember-releas...
This is what democracy looks like. #NoKings
This has nothing to do with crime. This is an attempt to crush political dissent.
Never before, in our entire 250 year history, has the military or immigration agents been used like this. It's dystopian, illegal, and it should stop.
A+ We should take it to Broadway boys!
What is a good example?
So exhausting..
Democrats should not and cannot fund the government without securing a statutory provision reversing the Supreme Court and banning ICE from questioning, detaining, or attacking Hispanic and Latino Americans on the basis of their ethnicity alone.
STOP conceding that Trump can legitimately expand grab by deploying baseless claims of “emergency.”
There was NO EMERGENCY to justify tariffs.
There was NO “INVASION” to justify this migrant crackdown.
And there is NO “EMERGENCY” that justifies military takeover of local law enforcement in D.C.
NEW: Wearing masks, no ID, unmarked & blacked out cars, refusing to say what agency they’re from and using profanity with any press & public nearby.

How did you come to love living on the edge so much?
this headline is complete fucking horseshit btw, this is what he actually said
It’s disgusting what Trump is doing to our country.

Hello. I live in Los Angeles. The president is lying.
Fake emergencies to justify crackdowns-not very original
One more for the "WTF" quota...
This lady has been legally in the U.S. for 50 years. She was detained by ICE in *February* when coming home from a trip to the Philippines and only just released last week.

I published a new post about my personal coding workflow with AI coding assistants and an approach to making it sustainable.
Yeah, I used the phrase "vibe coding." It's a little cringe, but it's the phrase people are using, in my experience. 🤷
Hands Off! A bunch of big organizations (50501, Women’s March, MoveOn, Indivisible, Hands Off) are coming together on April 5 for a day of nationwide action & protest against the Trump regime. “If we don’t fight now, there won’t be anything left to save.” [kottke.org]
Peter Marks has been a constant force for good at FDA and this is beyond worrisome. It’s devastating news. wapo.st/4j31DJa
A screenshot of an editor showing `git annotate` with history for both the template and JS sides of an Glimmer component now rolled into one file with the template tag authoring format.
I've been moved to post on socials ... by a codemod! Ember's template-tag-codemod did a fantastic job moving all my components to template-tag but what _really_ wow'd me is polish provided by the [merge-history](github.com/embroider-bu...) command. #emberjs
Jeremy and colleagues, Many deals I work on have concepts of conditional notice. This is mine. Please consider this email my two week notice, revocable if the firm comes up with a satisfactory response to the current moment, which should include at minimum (i) signing on to the firm amicus brief in support of Perkins Coie in its litigation fighting the Trump administration's executive order against it, ii) committing to broad future representation, regardless of whether powerful people view it as adverse to them, (iii) refusal to cooperate with the EEOC's request for personal information of our colleagues clearly targeted at intimidating non-white employees, (iv) public refusal to fire or otherwise force out employees at the Trump administration's directive or implied directive and (v) public commitment to maintenance of affinity groups and related initiatives. This is not what I saw for my career or for my evening, but Paul Weiss' decision to cave to the Trump administration on DEl, representation and staffing has forced my hand. We do not have time. It is now or it is never, and if it is never, I will not continue to work here.
Tonight, hours after the Paul Weiss news broke, an associate at Skadden Arps sent a firm-wide email:
"Please consider this email my two week notice, revocable if the firm comes up with a satisfactory response to the current moment...We do not have time. It is now or it is never..."
