What’s amusing is how many non-dev/not even dev-adjacent people are weighing in as if they know what they’re talking about.
Even before AI there were a lot of cowboy coders slinging junk around. AI by itself doesn’t mean bad code, it’s still on the development team to ensure the code is correct.
It's crazy how bad some people's DIY electrical work is. If I end up buying a place, first thing I'm doing is ripping out all of the breakers and throwing in AFCIs, I just don't trust people.

100%. I think too many people conflate “this department at my job hasn’t been visibly useful to me” with “this business function can be eliminated across the board”
It’s just wild how many people want to reduce other people’s job titles down to a sentence without understanding what the jobs actually do (and my critique of this extends to nearly every job that people say will be replaced)
The extreme takes of “AI is awful and has no use” and “AI will eat all of our jobs” seem so bizarre. For example, software dev is more than typing out code, there’s the function of understanding and planning around a business objective. IMO it’ll give more time to understand requirements.
AI has made coding SO much more fun.
Is it perfect? No.
Do I feel more motivated when most of the gruntwork is being done for me? Yes.
Do I have even more time to audit what I’m doing to make sure it’s correct? Absolutely.
The idea was sold on tracking groups, but it very well could be abused.
Many groups are transparent and advertise, plus the larger ones get permits anyways.
It felt like an intrusion of first amendment rights, especially peaceful demonstrators and random supporters just tweeting they support a cause
Near the end of college I was desperate to find a job and was referred to a place. Day 1, find out the product was to scour social media to map protest participants from Twitter streaming data. I quit.
It was a quick lesson that taught me to learn the ethics/impacts of my work before starting a job

A lot of the Waymo discourse around that article shows a lot of prominent posters are just in it for clicks and attention. Framing it like there’s a room of folks playing Forza isn’t helpful at all to any productive discussion about safety/regulation.
Also sw dev requires a lot of domain expertise, not just in the field, but knowing the nuances of just who’s asking work to be done.
The same language used for a requirement could come from two different people with different meaning/priority/intent!

At the very least if every Dem signed onto an impeachment article and then publicly said “hey, the entire caucus is trying but now the GOP is blocking us” it absolves the Dems of their part.
I don’t think anyone reasonable thinks Dems *can* get him impeached right now.
