Richard Curran: If there is gas off the Irish coast we’re shooting ourselves in the foot not licensing explorers to go and find it
Things are bad when the British energy minister says the UK is “exposed” to rising energy prices.
Suppose it’s simply asking far too much to expect a senior RTÉ business journalist in 2026, as the #climate crisis deepens by the month, to have grasped that continuing to drill for fossils fuels is shooting ourselves in the head, never mind foot?

What I find bleak is how all of the politics/economics reporting around this war not only uses "energy" as synonymous with fossil fuels, but also has literally *nothing* to say about the politics/economics of moving off these fuels. Their continued use is 100% baked-in to all mainstream geopolitics.

The United States military has no honour.
Bombing school children, sinking unarmed ships and leaving sailors to drown — the stuff that from an early age, civilised people are told is barbarian.
Now US policy, because actual Western (and Christian) values are too "woke" or "politically correct".

Sustainability officers for large organisations proudly posting their #aicaricatures and thanking ChatGpt is peak irony.
But sadly, unintentional.

Every time I meet someone and they learn that I am in transportation, they say “you need to fix congestion on so and so road”.
Every time my response is the same: “I have the solution, you just won’t like it.”
Crickets following the exchange (also every time).

Birds are starting to show up in our garden which means the local outdoor cats are now starting to kill them.
Is their a reason why cat owners won't put bells on their murder machines?

The right time was obviously decades ago to start cutting into our dependency on fossil fuels, it's a much harder job now but leaving it any longer it obviously becomes harder and harder

People more intelligent than I have been saying it for years, but when you see what's happening in the middle east, there is no better time than to invest heavily in moving away from fossil fuels as an energy source and go all in on renewables, battery storage, grid upgrades, etc

PayGap.ie - Irish Gender Pay Gap Portal
A portal cataloguing gender pay gap reports from Irish companies.
Friends, I'm working on allowing people to access PayGap.ie in Irish. I'm close to finished on the code work needed to support translatable strings everywhere, and will do my best at a first pass of the translations too, but if there's any Irish speakers willing to give it a look, let me know!

What? None of the usual car-enthusiast suspects adding yellow ribbons to the trees and protesting their felling?
Or do they only do that if they think it might stop a cycle lane?

The people amplifying the corrosive claims about dodgy voting in G&D - sharing the Mail front page - are people who disagree with it, afaics.

I cannot help but think of families dropping daughters to school at St Brendan's GNS in the Glen — the same distance from the military base in Cork as the primary school in Minab.
The people killed in the US/Israeli bombing of the school is now counted at 148, mostly girls between 7–12 years old.
