Great suggestion.
I like the noscript element, but I feel it doesn't get used nearly enough.

We switched from a Fire Stick to Apple a few years ago because of the ads. I know the Apple TV is a lot more expensive, but for us the user experience has just been superior.
I'm looking forward to the first Front End Sheffield of 2026. Tomorrow's talk on accessibility and games should be really interesting.
Who will be joining me?
As a non-driver, I use public transport a lot. However, the poor service has really impacted how I plan to get anywhere.
I had high hopes for public ownership, but so far it's not been a positive move. Poor staffing levels feels like something they've had long enough to be in control of.
When I first moved to Sheffield there were 8 trams an hour into the city centre from where I'm based. That's now down to 5 and that's if you're lucky. The evening and Sunday services are even worse. It's no longer a reliable service.

@kitation.co.uk will use video games as a comparator to look at how we can introduce fresh ideas into our work as the compliance-lead approach has run out of steam.

That small apostrophe is amusing me. It's as though they couldn't decide whether or not it should exist there, so cautiously added a tiny one just in case. π

Some using screen readers may be able to see the emojis, but for those that can't it's important the alt text makes sense to them. These are the people we write alt text for in the first place.
They would work, but my advice would be to avoid them. Most people writing alt text will never test it using a screen reader, so will probably not understand how the emojis will be interpretted.
Yes they have alt text of their own, but that text doesn't necessarily match expectations.
It seems strange to use emoji for alt text when its intended audience is people who generally can't see images. Emojis are very visual.

The first Front End Sheffield of the year sounds like a good one. @kitation.co.uk is a great speaker to start 2026 with.
I interviewed a few folks last year about this and not to provide spoilers, but itβs a net negative piccalil.li/blog/are-peo...

Not holding my breath for that promise. We've heard this all before.
That said, I do want this to happen. It's a much needed improvement.
We've been promised so many much needed rail improvements in the North of England by different governments that have ultimately never happened. It's becoming difficult to believe these announcements as anything more than hot air.

I believe it's the SY Mayor's office that is in charge of trams rather than the council. However, I agree you shouldn't need to use X for live updates. Many of us are avoiding that site for various reasons, and you can no longer view an X feed without an account and signing in.
