80% of adulthood is pretending youβre not sick, βit must be just allergies.β
The other 20% is trying to power through it the next day, hoping itβs just one of those 24-hour bugs.

I finally figured out what my book is about and cranked out 5,000+ words in a single day! (Yay ADHD hyperfocus!)

Know any startups tackling ADHD challenges in the workplace? I'm looking for introductions to companies seeking an ally who understands both the technical and neurodiversity landscapes.
Emotional regulation struggles are at the core of all of these.
Have you seen a different way to show up as a leader?
What makes emotional regulation especially important is that it's most visible exactly when it's most difficult. A leader can build executive presence over time with competence and communication, but can lose it in an instant with a single emotional outburst.
- Project confidence even when facing uncertainty (Do you agree with this one?)
- Display appropriate emotional expression (Funny story: I was once told that I don't seem to care enough when I remained completely stoic during a serious production outage. The appropriate expression is somewhere between completely stoic and overly emotional. But probably much closer to stoic.)
When we see someone who exudes executive presence, what stands out is their ability to:
- Respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively
- Remain calm under pressure rather than showing anxiety or frustration
A cartoon character asking βwhat percentageβ¦β
What percentage of executive presence do you think is just emotional regulation during frustrating, tense, and high-stakes moments?
I'd say it's a substantial part! Maybe 60-70% of what we perceive as "executive presence" comes down to how well someone manages their emotions.

Bam!
You absolutely should do what you must to protect yourself (eg I wonβt travel to my native Russia right now). I just donβt like the world weβre seemingly headed for. And I hope this shrinking and contracting and isolating trend reverses soon.
I totally understand the sentiment, believe me! But I also canβt help but think of this quote:
βLet us build bridges rather than barriers, openness rather than walls.β β MLK
Iβd be happy to take a peek and offer advice.

You sound like youβre pretty unfamiliar with mental illness.
"Was [he promoted] because of his skin color? Or his skill? Weβll never know, but always doubt" is such a wild thing to write, like you are literally just saying "I am a racist"
That sounds like a trauma response. Youβre talking to a therapist about this, Iβm assuming?
Do you know who owns the media youβre consuming?
βIf you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.β β Malcolm X
β β¦whatever you do, donβt read Soviet newspapers before dinner.
β But there arenβt any other papers!
β Thatβs what I mean, donβt read newspapers.

Who among us ADHDers hasnβt read or seen a short about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) and thought, βOh my gosh, it's me!β It's incredibly validating! But what exactly is RSD, and what can you do about it? (Based on fascinating new research!)
