"Artists peak at 30", "30 under 30", "by 30 you should" ridiculous. Arts industries capital craves young people to exploit and burn out. It doesn't want older artists thriving and guiding the young. It also doesn't want artists to exist. Stop letting cannibals tell you you only matter on a plate.

As hard as we are fighting, book bans are having an impact on the books being written and published. To put this another way, a very small number of well-funded people who don't write books, don't teach books, don't work in libraries are trying to decide what books are available for everyone else

Zeynel closes a pretty sweet deal, and finally gets back to doing his favourite thing in the world: falling head over heels for his wife. 😍
I WFH and have been spending the past 3 years (and more in the future) to improve how I live in my home.
I still have the issue of the internet being distracting, so I'd go to the local cafes (or the nearest library) to do maybe 3-4 hours of intense work.
I prefer to work solo in silence tho.
I highly encourage us cartoonists who practice and learn our craft through production to pursue and read up on the work of comics scholarship. "Comics" is so complex as an art form and subject; and personally so much of how academics study comics gets me hype about how cool it is. xDD

Neil's research is on how understanding and reading comics (or sequential imagery) is a cognitive skill and process not unlike learning and reading a language. It's interesting stuff - worth a read for us working cartoonists

I have the full transcript of the comics pages on my site! The one in my site has a more a prosey-description, but just for bluesky summary purposes: the first two pages of book one: the carpet merchant, we open to the Blue Mosque and the bazaar/market suburb of Istanbul: where the main characters live.

We start with Zeynel in the middle of tempting a client with magnificent carpet wares, and with me contending with the fact that I'd be drawing so many elaborate patterns.

Ooh didn’t know this was a thing till now!! I actually really appreciate how the categories are done (webcomics and graphic novels respectively broken down into genres and age groups!!) - it’s been a thing that bothers me with the mainstream comics awards
The art I started TCM on looks so chunky now compared to how I draw nowadays xDD It's still pretty alright though - other than me not yet landing Zeynel's soft, elegant character design. Will get there!!

Like bruh, of course I would love to have my comic read by allegedly 3000 readers in this challenge, but it would have been simpler if you had just simply asked 'hey can I add [comic] to the list' instead of trying and failing to convince me you like my comic. Anyway idk it's not life or death
Just got an invitation to have one of my webcomics join a Goodreads Challenge, which is nice, except the email then proceeds to praise my comic in identifiably AI slop, which is not nice.
