Regardless of the wisdom of war in Iran, Chicago archbishop reminds us of the harm to our own humanity when we revel in the suffering of others.
Trump multiple times just today has said the country is at war. War can only be declared by Congress, and Iran posed no imminent threat. What Trump is doing there is a textbook illegal war and impeachable offense — if we still had a Congress.
Reverend Jesse Jackson called on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope; to step forward and say “Send me” wherever we have a chance to make an impact.
How fortunate we were that Jesse Jackson answered that call. What a great debt we owe to him.
Maybe this is just me, but I kind of think massive military operations, in which we're demanding unconditional surrender as the outcome, probably should be authorized by Congress.
super disappointing that we can pick up workers in the middle of the night, ship them across the States to hold them in detention for weeks, so they can get sick while we deny them real food and clean water, before finally deporting them in handcuffs... all w/o ever seeing a real judge

this is a great brief and it appropriately ends with a killshot: the simple observation that if trump's meaning held, the birthright clause would not have overturned dred scott, the one thing it was absolutely meant to do.
