Regardless of the wisdom of war in Iran, Chicago archbishop reminds us of the harm to our own humanity when we revel in the suffering of others.
Trump multiple times just today has said the country is at war. War can only be declared by Congress, and Iran posed no imminent threat. What Trump is doing there is a textbook illegal war and impeachable offense β if we still had a Congress.
Reverend Jesse Jackson called on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope; to step forward and say βSend meβ wherever we have a chance to make an impact.
How fortunate we were that Jesse Jackson answered that call. What a great debt we owe to him.
Maybe this is just me, but I kind of think massive military operations, in which we're demanding unconditional surrender as the outcome, probably should be authorized by Congress.
super disappointing that we can pick up workers in the middle of the night, ship them across the States to hold them in detention for weeks, so they can get sick while we deny them real food and clean water, before finally deporting them in handcuffs... all w/o ever seeing a real judge
NEW: Federal judges have spent months ordering ICE to give detainees a chance for release in bond hearings.
Now, they're worried that the bond hearings themselves β conducted by Executive Branch immigration judges β are a farce.

a graph of year-on-year change in US tech employment
Brutal numbers for US tech sector jobs released todayβoverall, employment decreased by 12k last month and is down 57k over the last year
That's now nearly as bad as the worst of the 2024 tech-cession, and significantly worse than either the 2008 or 2020 recessions
Bad time to be easing sanctions on their oil

(Republican) Rep. Warren Davidson on today's war powers vote: "...the moral hazard posed by a government no longer constrained by our Constitution is a grave threat."
Fact check: True!!!!!!!
Last week, when I met with Noem face-to-face, one of the few things she was honest about was her plan to consolidate detention centers.
One thing about these big camp systems is that they inflict a tremendous amount of harm through sheer momentum. When a system is built to be both negligent and punitive, it tends to cause suffering by default.
Iβve had the best experience with olmOCR (olmocr.allenai.org) and Google Lens may be a good phone option too
Is the problem scanning them into digital or the OCR?
Looks like this is the closest weβll get to a formal declaration of war
This βitβs not a war but a special military operationβ is very Kremlin March 2022. As is the propaganda that we are not starting a war but ending one. As is the confusion of oligarch media as it tries to be faithful in the confusionβ¦
How can Congress pass a supplemental funding bill for a war it has not authorized?
Trumpβs lies are often a tell, addressing something heβs feeling vulnerable about.
Under that interpretation, βvirtually unlimited supply of weaponsβ means the depletion is real and serious, most likely with air defense interceptors the biggest concern.
if you won't impeach for starting a war without Congress, then what's impeachment for?
NEW: Around 60 services tied to Amazon Web Services are down in the region, affecting web traffic in the UAE and Bahrain. The outage comes following Iranian attacks on the UAE as retaliation for US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Congress has appropriated the funds to NSF but OMB is delaying the release. When funds are released, NSF, which has lost almost 1/5 of its staff, will struggle to evaluate proposals. Since they have to award the funds, big projects with established PIs will benefit. This is how US science dies.
"Aside from the internment camps used to incarcerate Japanese Americans in the 1940s, such facilities have no precedent in American history..."

this is a great brief and it appropriately ends with a killshot: the simple observation that if trump's meaning held, the birthright clause would not have overturned dred scott, the one thing it was absolutely meant to do.
NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just βcried and cried and cried,β a mother said. The facility denies the claims.

The State of the Union: the president is a corrupt demented sex criminal who tried to overthrow the constitution.
