i can't really fathom how somebody, especially fairly high up at one of these companies, can be so siloed and blinkered in an engineering role that they refuse to consider the horrors it might inflict on the world. it requires a powerful dissociative ability that i am completely lacking

this is something thats been bothering me for a while too, if you dont work at a major company and dont want to shell out $200 (minimum) a month, its weird to think you are now dramatically slower / less productive than your peers with more money
