What a great start to the game jam. It took me only about an hour and a half to get this little bean to stop falling through the floor and be able to interact with the cube. Why is 3D so hard? ๐ญ

Hi, weโre Invocatus! ๐ A tiny 2-person studio (Deborah ๐ฉโ๐ป + Michael ๐จ๐น๏ธ) from Dresden, Germany, crafting indie games with story & soul ๐ Visit us @ invocatus-games.com
What a great start to the game jam. It took me only about an hour and a half to get this little bean to stop falling through the floor and be able to interact with the cube. Why is 3D so hard? ๐ญ
Today the #GameJamDD is starting and weโre jumping in! The topic is fall, and I'll try to post daily updates with our progress.
Today's session was just brainstorming, but for now the project has the codename DAC :) I want to try to work in 3D this time, we'll see how it goes
Itโs only one week until Halloween! We actually wanted to make a spooky pixel minigame. Iโll see how much I can get done this weekend. Michael prepared some spooky graphics, like this skull! It has a tiny resolution again, as itโs supposed to be an item.

Finally, AR Ghosty is done :) Now I can go update the website images, hurray!
#pixelart
Thereโs only one image left for our website - While waiting for Michael to finish it, I can show you how he made the development ghostys :)
#pixelart
Wow, October is going by fast! I hope we have time to create a tiny game by the 31st.
Anyway, hereโs already a timelapse of a pixel art witch (the old spooky kind).

Little ghosty is working hard at night programming:

Okay since new pictures are coming in slowly right now, maybe you can enjoy this timelapse of our little gamer ghosty for our website:

This is the image idea for game design - I wonder if it would be better if ghosty jumped at the end?ย
Well back to animating then!
Exciting news! Yesterday, we officially founded our company, horray ๐
I wrote about it on our blog, you can read more about it here: https://invocatus.de/en/blog/07_10_2025_InvocatusGruendung

I asked Michael to do an image for gamification and he made this :) I love his little happy face once he levels up
Still redoing website images. Here is the visual for "Development for any device": Little ghosty showing up on both a laptop and smartphone, yeay!
Okay apparently I messed up last time, but now for the start of Spooktober you can watch the pumpkin timelapse as promised!

Theme Voting!

Ludum Dare 58 Theme Voting rounds 1 and 2 are live. #LDJam

He also recorded a timelapse of the drawing processโcheck it out!

With spooky season coming up, I asked Michael to draw me a pumpkin ๐ And it's glowing!ย

We used some stock images to get the website up and running, but now itโs time to make it ours! ๐ป Hereโs a peek at little Ghosty enjoying some video games ๐ฎ

Weโve been sharing a lot of Ghost Chase development art on Bluesky โ now itโs all compiled in one place! ๐ปโจ

Finally, the title screen! ๐ปโจ
The entire castle was created on a single layer, and the ghost has a slightly higher resolution here. In Godot, we animated it to first fly across the screen, then pop up in the foreground.
#PixelArt #GameDev
Next: The spiral staircase.
Inspired by the Albrechtsburg castle in Meiรen near us. We wanted to capture that elegant curve in pixel form.
#PixelArt #GameDev
Then thereโs the dungeon!
Packed with shadows and moss to give it that old, worn feel. It was also the first map where we tested the gameplay mechanics!
#PixelArt #GameDev
Hereโs the inner castle with a well! โฒ
We wanted small details that make exploration feel charming, even at 64x64px.ย
#PixelArt #GameDev
Next up: The final level, the throne room ๐
Here we experimented with shadows a bit moreโฆ and it came out quite nice!
#PixelArt #GameArt #IndieDev #FrameByFrame
Since we received really positive feedback on the art during the #lowrezjam, we want to show some frame-lapses of how itโs done!
Starting with the first level: the castle bridge. Everything here is 64x64px and scaled to 512x512px!

Today my sweet laptop (made in 2015, gifted to me in 2019) almost died just trying to share my screen on Teams ๐
The awkward silence while everything frozeโฆ brutal.
Just ordered a new workstation with a dedicated GPU. Hopefully this one will last me a decade too! ๐ปโจ
#PCUpgrade #TeamsAgain
It's such a lovely ghost, we'll probably continue making some ghost games. Hereโs the 4 versions Michael made for this jam.ย Fun fact: The crying one was based on the original game this concept came from, but it went unused in our version :)
#PixelArt #IndieGame #LowRezJam #GameArt
Sadly I couldnโt spend as much time on it as planned (and even forgot music which was a graded category ... Oh well ๐
).
Still, it was a great learning experience and helped me get a feel for the engine. And we got a lot of nice comments which was awesome!
Hereโs a little throwback: Our entry for the #lowrezjam2025, Ghost Chase ๐ป

Made in Godot as a test run for making something tiny start-to-finish.ย

Hello, world! ๐๐
We finally got around to making a Bluesky account. Weโre Invocatus, an indie studio just getting started and proud to be part of the Press Start Grant 2025.
Our team is Deborah (programming) + Michael (pixel art), and itโll mostly be Deborah sharing updates here as we go โจ
