#31 A TRIBE CALLED QUEST - Dis Generation (2016)
Strangely I only have one 2016 song on my list, and it's not even the consensus pick. Well... I just love this sample!!!
This is a chilling crime. A shame on our country. The Iranian ship was unarmed. The US knew this. The sailors were murdered by our navy, and the survivors were left to die at sea.
newrepublic.com/post/207429/...
It was funny to see, I don't even remember which US newspaper it was anymore, but an obit of Ali Khamenei said something to the effect of "he lived a paranoid life in which he believed the US and Israel were out to kill him, which eventually happened"
A fun bonus to follow my games of the year post: The exp. Culture Awards 2025. My year in music, film and television.
Fans of American genre cinema, check out the kickstarter for The Riverbend, a nearly-lost film about three black Vietnam vets who teach a small town how to defend themselves against a racist sheriff. A rare starring role for Steve James. There's a blu ray as well! www.kickstarter.com/projects/ree...

#30 CIGARETTES AFTER SEX - Affection (2015)
Music for lying sweaty on a mattress on the floor, fan rotating, streetlights through blinds, trying to capture a moment, trying to hold onto it.
Wow interesting! you can find out more here

Whoops! Thanks for pointing it out. Should be fixed now.
This is from one of the former Infinity Ward/Call of Duty co-founders:
The president of music at Electronic Arts, Steve Schnur, is engaged in a smear campaign to try and cover up the murder of a 5-year-old
1 Inquiry for New York Times Good afternoon, My name is [REDACTED] and l am a reporter for the New York Times. I am researching how much money the Palestinian diaspora community has sent to support Gazan families since the war in Gaza began. Does your team track this figure? I really appreciate it. With gratitude, [REDACTED]
Palestine Diaspora Movement Hello [REDACTED] We do not collaborate with The New York Times. Your email asks about money sent to Gazan families "since the war in Gaza began." Let us first correct the premise. This is not a war. It is a genocide. Calling it a war is part of the problem. It obscures the reality of a colonized people being massacred by a military machine backed by the United States and defended, sanitized, and rhetorically softened by institutions like yours. The New York Times has spent far too long parroting Zionist propaganda and laundering Israeli state narratives while Palestinians bury their dead. That kind of coverage does not merely misinform. It helps create the political climate in which Palestinian slaughter becomes explainable, defensible, and forgettable. So no, we will not be sharing any figures, internal data, or community information with a paper that has so thoroughly damaged its credibility on Palestine. Quite frankly, we would rather chew jeans than help The New York Times extract from our community while continuing to fail it. Do not contact us again for this purpose, The Palestine Diaspora Movement Team

Just read this article on the US & Israeli strikes on a school in Minab, Iran.
- At least 168 killed, including many girls aged 7-12.
- The school was bombed THREE times, not once.
- There were claims this was on an IRGC military base, but the base was closed 15 years ago.
This is a war crime.

Elle-MΓ‘ijΓ‘ Tailfeathers is returning her TFCA award best supporting performance in a Canadian film, following the organization's decision to censor her acceptance speech during Monday night's gala. Here are excerpts from Elle-MΓ‘ijΓ‘'s email to the TFCA, shared with permission. "To the membership and executives of the Toronto Film Critics Association; Firstly, I would like to thank the TFCA for recognizing my performance in Melanie Oatesβ beautiful film, Sweet Angel Baby. Playing Toni was one of the highlights of my career and I am deeply proud of that film and all that it offers; especially as a queer Indigenous woman. As a filmmaker, I also have profound respect for the work of film critics so I do not take this recognition lightly. Regretfully, I am writing to inform you that I will be returning the award due to the TFCA leadershipβs choice to censor my words on Palestine. I was unable to attend the gala in Toronto so I sent in an acceptance speech by video. The following statement was removed from the video - When we were shooting Sweet Angel Baby, October 7th happened and it changed everything. I just want to say that my heart continues to be with the people of Palestine who are experiencing this ongoing genocide and thank you to anyone in this industry whoβs been brave enough to say anything."
Absurd. Via @justsayrad.bsky.social on the hellsite, The Toronto Film Critics Association censored lle-MΓ‘ijΓ‘ Tailfeathers acceptance speech because she mentioned Palestine. Both weird and pathetic!

#28 KENDRICK LAMAR - Alright (2015)
Era-defining banger (and, interestingly, influential on Bowie's Blackstar, which I just picked)

#29 COURTNEY BARNETT - Depreston (2015)
Storytelling songs can end up tired, but this one never does. Aches with empathy.
This is some good stuff
I thought this speech was beautiful and moving. I genuinely thought he'd show up in a stained t-shirt, say "thanks" and walk off.
