The 5-year survival rate for all cancers combined is now approximately 69% due to major treatment advances such as platinum-based chemotherapy like cisplatin. However, an unfortunate side effect of cisplatin treatment is irreversible ototoxicity, or hearing loss.
With overall survival rates of all #cancers better than in previous decades, managing side effects of treatment - such as hearing loss from platinum-based #chemotherapy - is more important than ever.

Oto-tox-icity Noun OTOTOXICITY refers to inner ear damage from exposure to certain drugs of chemicals, leading to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance issues.
Platinum-based drugs, including cisplatin, are effective treatments for #cancer, but they may cause permanent hearing damage known as #ototoxicity.
