what is the largest animal you are confident you could expel, singlehandedly, from a medium-size bookshop?
RULES:
- you have no resources beyond what is available in the shop
- you must remain more or less uninjured
- bookshop has 2 floors; animal is on ground floor, you can choose where you begin
This is Space Wizard Science Fantasy's fifth year of publishing #queer SFF books! Releases are now several years out, so we're closed to cold submissions, but we have a campaign running currently to bring Lesbians in Space to audiobook with Mary Robinette Kowal!

Can we live in an Austen novel for a bit where the big drama is the neighbors are annoying?
Iβm really tired of living in an Orwell novel. Can some other country do regime change to us HERE?
Dude wrote a 173 page footnote on a marginally related topic, prefacing it with βI have omitted much that I would like to have said... [and] I have written much that few will read."
I HAVE FOUND MY PATRON SAINT
Serious moment: I know at least one vast archive of incredible photos of East London's bus and tram history that are lost forever. Because the guy who lovingly took them over decades died without a will and no relatives.
Whole collection lost to house clearance. Probably just binned.
i personally don't think the brits should be allowed to put animals on their money, because that's stealing a good idea from the irish
I think Iβve inhaled a few too many 17th century particles because Iβm feeling extra revolutionary today. You may call it glorious even.
We are looking at a page of handwritten minutes from 1677. There is a list of names including Suckling Spendlove.
In 1677 there was a Merchant Adventurer called Suckling Spendlove.
We'll just leave that there...
It is very funny to me that 2026 has two Friday the 13ths in a row. Like, yep, that is the kind of year we're having
One reason Hodgson was looking at it differently was because he hated written history being about kings, queens and lords.
He was fascinated by regular people and wanted to write their stories. The intro to his last volume (when he knew he was dying) is so sad. I'll do a thread on it after lunch.
Canβt fight them on the beaches if youβre usually only found in rivers and canals.
St Pancras station this evening. The Bayeux Tapestry is coming! Through the tunnel (but not on Eurostar). Making the journey on dry land, unlike when it went from Canterbury to Bayeux in the 1070s.

Operation sew a little thing: I have mended a linen nightie I started pinning a patch to a few days ago. And yesterday I finished making a pair or pants I had started WEEKS ago.
So yeah, Monday's exertions are being felt today. Night sweats, so I changed nightie twice and have to dry the bedding instead of making the bed. No breakfast or morning meds.
That's true actually! The fact they're having to dig for other weird stuff to smear him rather than just "gay Jew" is actually progress π
I want to make sure everyone knows that "plastic production" includes your clothes. Polyester, nylon, "synthetic," are all basically plastic fibers, made from oil. And every time you wash those polyester clothes they release microplastics into the water!
Also: what is the key difference between a disabled person's lifelong pain and, say, incontinence, and someone previously non-disabled with the same pain and incontinence plus a terminal diagnosis?
Ireland's home heating oil prices have surged eight times above the EU average as the CCPC investigates fuel price gouging claims following the outbreak of conflict in Iran. csalert.ie/BCfT8L
There was a similar issue with EU law and Hungary (i believe), that trans peopleβs documents must be updated in accordance with the GDPRβs requirements for truthfulness and updating of data

A screenshot of a tumblr ask from an anonymous user. They write, βYour art always seems to touch me when I really need it - been so incredibly depressed for no discernible reason (so nothing seems to improve it), hard to feel much, but flipping through your comics finally got me to have a much needed cry. I love you. Thank you for everything you shareβ A comic follows: "...MOMENTS EARLIER..." Emma is struggling to draw on her tablet. "ugh I'm having such a hard time drawing lately. everything i try to make always turns out so SHITTY." Emma yells, breaking her stylus, "AUGGHHH WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER MAKING ANYTHING???????????" Emma looks defeated, but is distracted by a notification on her phone. "what? a tumblr ask? what could anyone possibly have to say to a worm like me?" (tiny: Emma pauses to read and then cries)
thanks anon I needed that, i hope youβre feeling a little better
"There is no scientific evidence autistic children benefit from ear defenders" is technically true if you don't count the child asking for the ear defenders as evidence
The Lemkin Institute has issued a *THIRD* trans genocide warning, noting the next stage is widespread containment - and this was before the 4th Circuit ruled today that states can essentially do whatever they want to make trans people "appreciate their sex".

Adoption of EVs, solar PV, and heat pumps in Ireland is driven by affluence. Current grants favour high-income groups, risking a "green divide." Policies must focus on equity and lower upfront costs.

Of the 752 GPs who replied, 212 refused a sick note or weren't prepared to say.
So people are going to their GP - who is neither qualified to diagnose, nor equipped to treat MH conditions - and almost a third say "no".
Of course, the BBC headline doesn't reflect this.
Now that Dublin City Council are chickening out of Wood Quay we should use the site to build a monastery with lots of treasure in it. That way we can lure the vikings back and let them build more archaeology.
I must remember to watch this later
