I think Maths teachers are so skilful - I reckon the bored bit isnβt something I reckon would happen.

Agree with you there. Weβre finding, more so in English, increasing numbers that have such low levels of literacy/numeracy they can access little. However they need intensive intervention aside from any setting mixed or set on prior attainment.
Year 7 yes, 8 perhaps, 9 maybe? We always used to way back in tβ day, when I started.
One of my all time favourites (definitely my favourite cover art)
.. we found better engagement e.g. asking more questions
.. improved work in books
.. improved Oracy
.. fewer behaviour issues
.. better progress
Only real challenges they faced were in lower sets in Maths and Science
KS3 Mixed groups seems a 'no brainer' to me and I'm a science teacher!!!
I read the article and found myself nodding along all the way through. We've been shadowing students this year to see what a school day is like for them. Most are LPA and/or EHCP/LAC/PP/subject to care plans etc. The +ve impact on their experience in Mixed classes compared to sets was noticeable..
I think it is much more than prestige, it is about equity, motivation, entitlement, student self worth, progress and learning. 5 yrs in classes with same students, likely poorer behaviour, higher levels of EaL, PP, SEND is a tough gig. Personally I'm all for Mixed Prior attainment across KS3.
In my experience you might get a tokenistic gesture towards this but in reality it's very unlikely to happen at any scale that will be impactful.
Morning all, easy pick for me this morning. Have a good one.

Reading comprehension is not a skill. Itβs an outcome of what you know. Strategies plateau. Knowledge compounds.

After reading the white paper carefully and discussing it during a SENCo forum this week, Iβve written on the shift in language, and what some of this might mean for schools in practice.

Responsive Revision offers a different approach. This is a term I have been sharing with teachers, students and parents..."

Should probably write this up properly. On what I think is the fundamental flaw in the underpinning principles in the SEND white paper and why I think it makes failure inevitable.
Morning all, a bit of Mississippi delta blues to kick off with. Jack White cited this as a big influence. All the best
