That’s the point! If you don’t like her now, you’d hate the book, in which Heathcliff is a cruel, abusive, grave robbing, vindictive rapist, & Cathy is selfish, shallow, willful & mean. It is who they are inside and out. She IS a petulant child. Not liking Cathy doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie.

I don’t expect anything of you 😅, and I never suggested you should like her. I agree with you that she is unlikable. I think it’s part of what makes the story compelling.

She doesn’t HAVE redeemable qualities and THAT IS the POINT. It is a story about selfish, shallow, vindictive people, who punish each other. Your desperate quest for redeemable qualities is fruitless.

You wanting Catherine to die is a reflection on you, rather than on Catherine. Did her actions deserve death? I don’t think so. Your expectation that all characters be both likeable and redeemable is more an indication of your narrow palette than a reflection of the quality of the film.

Not every character in every story is going to be “likeable”, that’s painfully boring storytelling. You probably know lots of people you don’t like, yet they continue to exist.

The characters in Wuthering Heights ARE completely unlikable. They are selfish, cruel, possessive, vengeful and shallow. That’s part of the whole point.

Fennel’s take is very much an “inspired by” story. She’s taken the set dressings, characters, & a few key scenes from the og, & written her own story entirely. It’s gorgeously shot, bold & dramatic visually, great soundtrack, heart wrenching. Go see it, but don’t expect to see WUTHERING HEIGTS.

Wuthering Heights(2026) is an entirely different creature than Wuthering Heights(1847).

I really liked the movie. The trailers made it clear that it was nothing like the book. But if you’ve never read it, and go to read it after the movie, you’ll be in for the shock of a lifetime.

Been looking forward to seeing Wuthering Heights, & just saw a theater trailer last night. In big GIANT text, it proclaims “inspired by the GREATEST love story ever told”….Whoever wrote that must truly struggle with reading comprehension. Or has never read Wuthering Heights. I’ll still see it!
